  2. 2. It’s Not All Bad! <ul><li>There is some programming, </li></ul><ul><li>There are some movies, </li></ul><ul><li>There are some songs/albums, </li></ul><ul><li>There are many websites </li></ul><ul><ul><li>That do NOT violate Christian principles. </li></ul></ul>
  3. 3. However… <ul><li>A study of Philippians 4:8 and Romans 1:32 will help us know what we should be watching, listening to, and surfing . </li></ul>
  4. 4. “ Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good [report], if there is any excellence, and if there is anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things” (Philippians 4:8, NASB).
  5. 5. “… being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful…” “ and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them” Romans 1:29-32
  6. 6. Would You Invite a Friend Over Who Was… <ul><li>Telling Crude Jokes? </li></ul><ul><li>Being very suggestive? </li></ul><ul><li>Then why did you just pay your money to watch it? </li></ul>

Would You Ever… <ul><li>Drink? </li></ul><ul><li>Talk to a girl about how sex with her would sound? </li></ul><ul><li>Respect those who control prostitutes? </li></ul><ul><li>Then why would you buy/download a song that celebrates these things? </li></ul>T-Pain, “Buy U A Drank” #5 this week (former #1)

The Same is True of Television Shows <ul><li>Why watch shows that promote </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Drinking and drug use </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Adultery and premarital sex </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Cursing and hateful language </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Homosexuality </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Immodesty </li></ul></ul><ul><li>When you would never allow those things in your home? </li></ul>

  10. 10. <ul><li>Some Frightening Facts </li></ul><ul><li>About 90% of children have been exposed to pornography online (U.S. Justice Department). </li></ul><ul><li>The largest demographic viewing online porn is 12-17 year olds. </li></ul><ul><li>20% of young people in chatrooms or IM have been sexually solicited. There are 50,000 sexual predators online at any given time. </li></ul>
  11. 11. <ul><li>Some Frightening Facts </li></ul><ul><li>One of every 4 searches on search engines is for porn (68million daily). </li></ul><ul><li>8% of all emails are pornographic (2.5billion daily). </li></ul><ul><li>There are still 100,000 websites offering illegal child pornography. </li></ul><ul><li>28,258 internet users are viewing pornography every second. </li></ul>
  12. 12. <ul><li>Some Frightening Facts </li></ul><ul><li>At the end of 2004, there were over 420million pages of pornography online. </li></ul><ul><li>66% of adult sites do not have a “warning” page and 74% display a free “teaser” picture on their homepage. </li></ul><ul><li>Some doctors are now suggesting that “cyber sex” is as addicting as cocaine. </li></ul>

And it’s not just porn… <ul><li>Websites are out there that promote everything sinful (drugs, immodesty, crude language, etc.). </li></ul><ul><li>AND, sites like MySpace and Facebook have “allowed” Christian young people to participate while parents just think they are innocently surfing the web. </li></ul><ul><li>Chatroom/IM language is also a problem for Christian young people. </li></ul>

What are we to do??? <ul><li>Remember our two verses? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Think on pure, lovely things. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Don’t give “approval” to those who promote sinful activities (including paying for them). </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Use your time for Christian things! </li></ul><ul><li>If you have a problem, admit it. </li></ul><ul><li>If you still have a problem, get rid of what’s causing the problem. </li></ul><ul><li>Remember it all starts with how we think. </li></ul>
  15. 15. Give your mind to the Lord! <ul><li>“ You shall love the Lord your God with all your…mind…” (Mark 12:30). </li></ul><ul><li>Have you done that? </li></ul>
