The presentation was given by Sham Pujar, IGIDR, India at the Marketplace for techies session at the 4th I-K-Mediary workshop in Bangladesh, January 2011.

Mashups: <ul><li>A mashup is a web application that combines data from one or more sources into a single integrated tool </li></ul><ul><li>Many mashups are highly interactive, allowing a user to specify the amount and type of information he or she wants to see </li></ul><ul><li>An example of a mashup is the use of cartographic data from Google Maps to add location information to real estate data, thereby creating a new and distinct Web service that was not originally provided by either source. </li></ul>

RSS [Really Simple Syndication OR Rich Site Summary]: <ul><li>RSS is a format for delivering regularly changing web content such as blog entries, news headlines, article titles etc. Introduced in 1997. </li></ul><ul><li>RSS is a way to subscribe to a source of information [Feeds], such as a Web site, and get brief updates delivered to you </li></ul><ul><li>One needs to subscribe to feeds and require RSS reader to read the content of feeds. Reader is a must as feeds are generated in XML format </li></ul><ul><li>Now most of the websites, blogs provide RSS feeds </li></ul><ul><li>RSS helps one to manage ever growing information in the particular field of study </li></ul>
