  1. 1. Annisa’s English Program<br />Run by four teachers: Mr. Iin, Ms. Lydia, Ms. Uti and myself Alexandra Scherer<br />
  2. 2. The program focuses on reading. Reading integrates 3 other skills: Listening, speaking, and writing<br />Benefits of reading:<br />Gets new vocabulary that they can use later<br />Can pronounce words<br />Can read confidently<br />Makes it more fun<br />Improves students’ reading speed<br />

  4. 4. HOW DOES THE READING PROGRAM WORK……?????<br />
  5. 5. a) Students will be provided books .<br />b) Home Reading Log book will be provided to each student to record what students are reading.<br />c) Novel reading activities will be conducted in class.<br />d) 2 English teachers will be teaching in class most of the time.<br />

THE HOME READING LOGPROGRAM<br />The Reading log program requires students to:<br />A) Read at home three times a week<br />B) Thirty minutes each time<br />C) Fill out the date, title of the book and comments.<br />D) Comments are like: I like the book because I like the main character Sarah. Examples will be given.<br />E) Each student will be given a reading log.<br />F) Reading log will be checked every week by the teacher.<br />G) For the reading log, students can read – comics, magazines, newspaper, any kind of books or even material from the internet as long as it’s in English.<br />

Parent's role:<br /> Ensure that your child has the reading material for the week.<br />Ensure that your child reads 3X a week for 30 minutes each time.<br />Ensure that your child fills out the Home Reading Log.<br />Assist child in looking up difficult words if there are any in the dictionary.<br />Make reading a fun activity where parents can spend quality time with your child.<br />For parents who are able to speak English, please try to communicate more in English with your child.<br />

CONSEQUENCES FOR NOT READING:<br />1) Parents will be informed in the communication book.<br />2) The reading log is part of the overall assessment so it’s important that all students put the effort needed.<br />3) Students’ break time will be reduced and they will have to complete Self Access Reading tasks.<br />
  10. 10. SPEAKING SKILLS<br />A) Reading<br />B) Pair-work activities<br />C) Group activities – discussions<br />D) Presentations<br />E) Plays will be performed at the end of the semester<br />
  11. 11. LISTENING SKILLS<br />A) Listening to the teacher<br />B) Listening exercises from the grammar books<br />C) Listening exercises from the storybooks using a CD or teacher’s voice.<br />D) Songs<br />
  12. 12. WRITING SKILLS<br />A) Answering reading comprehension questions.<br />B) Starting to write simple paragraphs<br />C) Technical details such as spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitals are integrated in the lessons.<br />

  15. 15. Assessment<br />Assessments will be done by integrating all the 4 language skills in the form of formative tests and classroom activities including spelling quizzes.<br />Assessments will also be done through the EHB ( EvaluasiHasilBelajar).<br />
  16. 16. Other programs:<br />1)English Day every Wednesday where all students will have to communicate in English with each other.<br />2) Student Teacher Communications will be conducted in English by all English teachers and some selected teachers that are fluent in English.<br />
