  2. 2. What is text? <ul><li>Text is any piece of writing. </li></ul><ul><li>This could be a letter, an email, a novel, a poem, a recipe, a note, manual instructions, an article in a newspaper or magazine, writing on a webpage or an advertisement. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Any texts written has got PURPOSES. </li></ul><ul><li>Some types of text: exposition, description, narrative, recount, report, procedure, anecdote. </li></ul>
  4. 4. A NARRATIVE
  5. 5. <ul><li>A narrative is a text that tells a fictional story or fantasy, a factual-based story, or a story combining fact and fantasy. </li></ul><ul><li>The purpose of a narrative is to entertain or to amuse the readers or the listeners. </li></ul>What is a narrative?
  6. 6. <ul><li>Orientation (a setting of characters & a plot) </li></ul><ul><li>Complication (problems are arising) </li></ul><ul><li>Resolution (solution of problems) </li></ul><ul><li>Coda (moral values taken from the story) </li></ul>Generic structure of narrative (sistematika penulisan) :
  7. 7. <ul><ul><li>An orientation contains who or what is in the story, when the story is taking place, and where the action is happening. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>A complication contains a chain of problems or conflicts that influences what will happen in the story </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>A resolution contains how the characters solve the problem arisen in the complication. It can be ended by happy or sad ending. </li></ul><ul><li>A coda provides a comment or moral values based on what has been learned from the story </li></ul>

She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and fell asleep. </li></ul><ul><li>Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There they found Snow White sleeping. Then Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said, “What’s your name?” Snow White said, “My name is Snow White.” </li></ul>
  39. 39. SNOW WHITE <ul><li>One of the dwarfs said, “If you wish, you may live here with us.” Snow White said, “Oh could I? Thank you.” Then Snow White told the dwarfs the whole story and Snow White and the seven dwarfs lived happily ever after. </li></ul>

Kesimpulan: (Conclusion) <ul><li>Narrative text adalah teks yang berisi tentang sebuah cerita fantasi atau dongeng . </li></ul><ul><li>Narrative text bisa berupa cerita rakyat ( folktale ), cerita binatang ( fable ), legenda ( legend ), cerita pendek (short story), dll. Di dalamnya terdapat konflik/masalah yang diikuti dengan penyelesaian. </li></ul>
  41. 41. Kesimpulan: (Conclusion) <ul><li>Fungsi utama teks ini adalah untuk menghibur pembaca atau pendengar nya. </li></ul><ul><li>Ciri Kebahasaan lainnya: Narrative text sangat dominan menggunakan simple past tense </li></ul><ul><li>Sering berisi kalimat langsung dan tidak langsung. </li></ul>
