The Location – A Holy City The Holy Haram is the most sacred place for Muslims around the world. The permanent population in Makkah is 1.6 million (2009). Access restricted to Muslims only 2 Peak Periods  Hajj : the annual pilgrimage.  Ramadan/ the Umrah pilgrimage : The smaller pilgrimage distributed across the rest of the year (nine months of Umrah period). 3.3 million visas for the period of Umrah in 2009, of those 40% arrived during Ramadan. As well as an integrated Bus system.
