  • CRETE: Competitive Region based on a)culture and history, b) sea and sun destination, c) the Mediterranean Cuisine During the last 30 years : A high number of HEI’s and Research Centres were established: Univ. of Crete (1977), FORTH (1983), Technical Univ. of Crete (1984), MAICh (1985), Inst. Marine Biology of Crete (1987) Crete has a high capacity in R&D , but lacks the critical mass of quality research infrastructures and SMEs collaboration to become a region of knowledge

  • Ypaithros: Motivation, problem area
    • The lack of technological infrastructures and the limited penetration of Information and Communication Technologies in rural areas has resulted in a considerable differentiation between rural and urban areas, known as the “Digital Divide”.
    The Ypaithros information service utilizes innovative technologies and aims to provide a sophisticated information source for rural businessmen. It provides quick and accurate business information to the rural population, at the proper time, in order to shrink the Digital Divide . ΥΠΑΙΘΡΟΣ (means “Rural Area” in the greek language)
    • Information submitted to the “YPAITHROS” database are automatically filtered, evaluated and transmitted to the registered users via voice or text messages (SMS, email).
    • Each recipient receives only the information which is strictly relevant to his/her particular interests.

      • Write the information
      • Select and form the right group of registered users
      • Send the information to their mobile phone / email / fixed-phone
