The test scenarios specially devel- oped by ifm are based on real con- ditions. The sen- sors are tested with regard to their suitability for the applications. The sensors have been subjected to tests according to the “proximity switch standard” DIN EN 60947-5-2 during their devel- opment stage.
  4. 4. Extremely resistant to chemical influences and temperature shocks. Tested to extremes: Market maturity is ensured by a pro- gramme of severe tests: temperature cycle, steam boiler, vibration, shock and temperature shock tests. For hygienic and wet areas In hygienic and wet areas such as the food industry, sensors are subjected to extreme operating conditions. The housing can be permanently wetted with aggres- sive cleaning agents. For steam cleaning the sensors do not only have to be absolutely ingress- resistant but also resistant to temperature shocks. Another requirement is a food- grade housing material. The T series from ifm electronic meets all these requirements. Resistant: Temperature range up to 100 °C – trouble-free use in hot processes or cleaning operations. Ingress-protected: Protection rating IP 67 / IP 68 / IP 69 K – the full-metal sensors are suited for extreme applications such as high-pressure cleaning or permanently wet environment. Free from corrosion: Threaded body and sensing face of high-grade stainless steel or PEEK, therefore resistant to aggressive chemical influences. Identifiable: Lasered type label – the sensors can still be clearly identified even after several years. Connection technology: ecolink “EVT” – the ideal connector for hygienic and wet areas.   6. 6. For industrial applications Extremely resistant to mechanical wear. Tested to extremes: Before the sensors are mature for the market they must undergo a test marathon to prove their reliability: vibration test, shock test, wire-brush test or impact test. Sensors for the metal-processing and automotive industries must be tough and largely resistant to mechanical stress. The full-metal sensors of the R series operate reliably even after more than 500,000 impacts and more than one million cycles in the shock test. The sensing face has a special coating where weld spatter does not stick. Ideal prerequisites for reliable operation. Insensitive: The special non-stick coating allows weld spatter to roll off the sensor and enables easy and quick cleaning. Free from corrosion: Threaded body and sensing face of high-grade stainless steel, therefore protected against mechanical stress. Heat resistant: Thanks to the temperature range of 0...85 °C even critical tempera- tures can be handled. Identifiable: Lasered type label – the sensors can still be clearly identified even after several years. Connection technology: ecolink “EVW” – distinguished by their weld slag resistant nuts and cables. These special cables are also suited for drag chains and torsional movements.   8. 8. For electro- magnetic fields Electromagnetic field immune and correction factor 1. Electromagnetic interference pro- duced during resistance welding can easily throw inductive sen- sors off balance. The sensors of the W series, the electromagnetic field immune application sensors, are protected by a special coil structure. In AC/DC and medium-frequency welding systems the electromag- netic field immune application sensors guarantee high operation- al reliability and plant uptime. Insensitive: The safecoating allows weld spatter to roll off the sensor and enables quick and easy cleaning. The sensing faces of the sensors consist of resistant Duro- plast. The metal sleeves are PTFE-coated in addition. Constant correction factor 1: The new sensors with correction factor 1 (K = 1) have the same sensing range on all metals. Ingress-protected: The protection rating IP 67 guarantees complete protection against contact with dangerous parts, ingress of dust and temporary immersion in water. Connection technology: Weld slag resis- tant – ecolink “EVW” connectors and sen- sors of the W series. Standard sensors are insufficient in many applications. The C series has been specially designed for this industry segment. Wide product range: Robust full-metal sensors, sensors with increased sensing range, correction factor K = 1 (= same sens- ing range on all metals) or K = 0 (= same sensing range on brass and stainless steel). Ideal for metalworking applications. Free from corrosion: The threaded body and the sensing face of the one-piece housing of the full-metal sensors are made of high-grade stainless steel. The robust material allows installation of the sensors in extreme applications. Endurance test for your peace of mind: The application sensors for use in machine tools are immersed in common oils and lubricants in a test chamber for a type test prior to series production. M series For mobile vehicles Inductive sensors for mobile applications Tested to extremes: The units pass salt spray tests, temper- ature / humidity cycles, continuous shocks and vibra- tion without prob- lems. From construction machines to municipal vehicles – when used in mobile vehicles, inductive sen- sors are subjected to heat, cold, moisture, dust and vibrations. The inductive sensors of the M series are reliable even in case of extreme strain. Suitability for mobile use is evidenced by the e1 type approval of the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (German Federal Office for Motor Traffic). Operational reliability: The increased sens- ing range protects against mechanical damage of the sensor. Ingress-protected: The stainless steel housing with the protection rating IP 67, IP 68 or IP 69 K protects against diffusion. Temperature: The sensors can be used at -40…85 °C. The units are moreover insensitive to fast temperature changes. Wide tolerance: A voltage range of 10...60 V compensates for high fluctua- tions in the on-board system. Whether explosion risk by dust or gas: With the application sensors from ifm electronic you are on the safe side. This is ensured by the EC type test certificate for the equipment categories 1 and 2 to EC directive 94/9/EC (ATEX). The choice is yours: From threaded and rectangular housings to dual sensors for posi- tion feedback on quarter-turn actuators. Here as well, sensors with increased sensing range are available. Connection technology: the connectors of the ecolink EVCxxA series have the EC type test certificate by DEKRA EXAM. In accordance with the strict standard requirements, they can be used in ATEX areas of the categories 2D, 3D and 3G. The units were tested to EN61241-0 table 5 for a low mechanical risk at 4 joules. No additional mechanical protection is required if no greater forces are to be expected in the application.
