  • 2. CHARLES DICKENS He was born onFebruary 7th 1812 and hedied on June 9th 1870.He was an English writer andsocial critic.He is generallyknown as the greatestnovelist of the Victorianperiod and the creator ofsome of the worlds mostmemorable fictionalcharacters.
  • 3. During his lifetimeDickens works had a lot ofpopularity and fame, but itwas in twentieth centurythat his literary genius wasfully recognized by criticsand scholars. His novelsand short stories continueto enjoy an enduringpopularity among thegeneral reading public.
  • 4. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Dickens. They were very poor and Dickens had to leave school to work in afactory after his father was imprisoned for debt.Though he had little formal education, his early impoverishment drove him to succeed.
  • 5. Dickens would go on to write 15 majornovels and countless short stories and articles before his death on June 9, 1870. FOR EXAMPLE:
  • 6. This is the story of an orphan,Oliver Twist.He has a miserable life in a workhouse andlater he is placed with an undertaker. He escapes and travels to London where he meets the Artful Dodger, leader of a gang of young pickpockets.
