  • 13. How to Participate?? • Be aware of the activities • Be familiar with the criteria for each award/ competition • Send in complete applications at the right time!
  • 14. Status of Student Activities in R10 Positive Notes Largest number of Student branches Enthusiastic Branch counselors Vibrant student branches • Many sections with more student members than full members
  • 15. Status Student activities in R10 Alarming facts Maximum number of dormant student branches Student membership fluctuations Minimal Reporting by student branches Lack of networking among student members
  • 16. Special Programs of R10 SAC Branch Counselors’ congress R10 Outstanding BC award Section student congress Alumni meets Branch Operations Guide R10 GINI
  • 17. Do You • Want to be connected? • Want more value for IEEE membership ? • Want to be more involved ? • Want a smooth succession of officers in your SB? • Want the activities to continue after you leave? • Want to be connected with your local section? • Want a fare share of money from the section?
  • 18. 2008 Initiative R-10 GINI R10 Global Integrated Network of IEEE students
  • 19. GINI Time line 2008: Few Pilot sections to be identified , start coordination activities and establish HUBs 2009: Addition of new sections-Expansion of Pilot projects 2010: Establishing R10 GINI at Council level 2011: Expansion of R10 GINI 2012: Complete establishment of R10 GINI Hyper Active GOLD/ student volunteers required !!!
  • 20. Reasons for R10 GINI Lahore Karachi Delhi Calcutta Bombay Hyderabad Region 10 still has 25% Inactive Branches Banglore Madras Kerala Successful establishment of IEEE LINK in Kerala
  • 21. IEEE Student Activities - Structure
  • 22. Disadvantages Top Down Approach- Old Fashioned Network Model Network among peers – local and global- very little scope - extensively time consuming process Benefits for a member is confined to the entity (SB) to which he or she belongs Lacks lateral knowledge sharing process Increase in inactive student branches Difficult to tap new potential educational institutions, as no system exists
  • 23. R10 Global Integrated Network of IEEE R10 GINI – Global Integrated Network of IEEE students Five Year initiative to integrate all the SBs in Region 10 Based on the successful prototype of IEEE Kerala Section –LINK R10 The Initiative was formally launched at Region 10 Student Congress held at Chennai, India in January 2008
  • 24. Reasons for R10 GINI Stay connected: Networking the students, around Region 10 Improve the SB coordination at Regional level – Creation of new SBs – Sustain existing SBs, we still have 25% inactive SBs Add Benefit to IEEE Student Membership within Region 10 Large potential for growth in Student Activities in Region 10 Low conversion rate of student members to GOLD members Successful Implementation of Link in Kerala
  • 25. R10-GINI : Vision GINI shall act as a catalyst in networking and sustaining the student branches of Asia- Pacific, and in increasing and adding value to IEEE student membership.
  • 26. R10-GINI : Mission Act as a conjunctive body to encompass the Student Branches coming under its geographical span Increase networking and add value to IEEE student membership Reactivate sick student branches/add new student branches
  • 27. Proposed Structure – New Prototype
  • 28. Advantages of the new prototype Exponential Growth of the Network – Setting up a similar network is easy – The exponential growth in student membership, branches and student activities Lateral knowledge sharing is made a reality Add benefits to the membership – The reach of membership benefits not limited to an SB Cordial relationships among Student Branches – Mutual help in sustaining as active Student Branches Increase the student involvement in IEEE Converting higher percentage of student members to GOLD
  • 29. Region 10 GINI - proposed Pilot Sections Include more pilot sections gradually Build a full fledged network within a span of 5 years
  • 30. R10-GINI : Areas of Concern Stabilizing IEEE Offices and the Volunteers – Ensure the connectivity of Student Branch officials – Try to bridge the gap with the proper transition of leadership Retention of members Special effort to address the concerns of new members Resolve issues of members (spectrum delivery, branch related issues) Membership Drives Membership Drives in Inactive Branches IEEE Awareness Visit potential Institutions for new Student Branches  Branch Counselor – Motivate the Branch Counselor, Institution Management Issues Many more…………
  • 31. R10- GINI: Mentor, Pilot Sections R10 GINI Mentor Section – IEEE Kerala Section, India (LINK) R10 GINI Pilot Sections – IEEE Australia & IEEE New Zealand – IEEE Delhi Section, India – IEEE Hyderabad Section, India – IEEE Karachi Section, Pakistan – IEEE Madras Section, India
  • 32. R10 GINI : Organization R10-GINI has a three tier structure – Level 1: R10 GINI Execom  R10 SAC, RSR, Mentor Section SAC, one Pilot Section SAC, Four Student Volunteers (from GINI section student representatives), R10 GINI Coordinator – Level 2: Section GINI Execom  Section SAC, GINI Section Student Representative, Hub Leaders – Level 3: Hub Level Team  Hub Leader (SB), Hub Leader Branch Counselor, Branch representatives
  • 33. R10 GINI : Connectivity R10-GINI has established a website – www.gini.r10sac.org GINI online meetings conducted regularly  GINI will organize face to face meeting for the R10 GINI Excom once in a year.
  • 34. R10 GINI- Major Achievements Networking among section SBs and Regional SBs on an exponential rise. Creditable conversion of sick SBs to active SBs Formation of new SBs Major increase in Student Branch Activities Effective Utilization of Regional Funds More value for IEEE student membership GINI constitution approved in many pilot sections
