architectural tradition joins with the modernity of the latest design trends and
this is done with clear criteria: quality, avant-garde training, a direct relation-
ship with the business world and a humanist education that understands cul-
ture as a sign of basic identity. Criteria that take into consideration that a good
designer must be able to respond technically and creatively to the changing
needs of our surrounding environment.
Remaining loyal to this spirit, the Istituto Europeo di Design of Madrid has
chosen a cultural programme whose objective is not only the student, but also
the citizens of Madrid, who will find a warm welcome to the world of design
at the IED through exhibitions, workshops, meetings with design and cultural
professionals, the library and their play and theatrical activities, etc. The aim of
this is to establish dialogue between the design centre and the city of Madrid.
A dialogue open to essential partnerships with industry and companies, where
the project’s culture is understood as a reflection between design, its history
and, above all, the environment in which it develops and its contemporary na-
ture.
There is a well-known and popular proverb in Spain that states “De Madrid
al cielo” (From Madrid to heaven). The Istituto Europeo di Design is an inter-
change, which allows design born in Madrid to stop off in Spain, Europe and the
rest of the world, before reaching heaven.

communication systems has been one of the main factors in the
contemporary world’s transformation process. The appearance
of the so-called knowledge society marks a radical change in the

necessarily change the learning and use of knowledge behaviours.
The network society is born as a new utopia, as a model and

are talking about bringing on, training and adapting perceptions
