Amritadhara - Issues, Challenges, and a Solution Amritadhara - Issues, Challenges, and a Solution Presentation Transcript

    • Amritadhara….
      • … .., is a dedicated students chapter , in the Bangalore Campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. It includes five different clubs, each one providing the students with the opportunity to pursue their field of interest, and nurture their hidden talents.
      • The clubs are spread over a wide spectrum of activities, which help the students shine in their particular field of interest and also to explore the various other oppurtunities the clubs provide.
    • The Issues
      • Most students, especially in the first year are really confused about the five clubs and their functioning.
      • Even the most interested students do not know who to approach or how to go about participating or lend a helping hand even if they want to.
      • Very few students read all the posters and notices the clubs put up on the main notice boards and various other places all around the campus.
      • The most effective way of getting participation is class to class announcements, which not only disturb the students but also the teachers .
      • In general, the students do not exploit all the clubs of Amritadhara to their full potential and do not realize the numerous oppurtunities they are being provided with for their own all round development.
      • We have a very small percentage of students who actively participate in the functioning of the clubs.
    • The reason
      • The main reason for the problem which we are facing is that whoever is interested in any activity, approaches the respective club, their executive member or secretary. In all this, Amritadhara has no identity of its own . No student understands Amritadhara as an entity and its importance as the focal point of all the clubs is lost.
      • The students do not identify the clubs, wednesday activities, with Amritadhara.
      • As of today, the whole concept of Amritadhara is really vague in the student’s mind. They are more attracted to the individual clubs, rather than Amritadhara , which embodies the essence of all the clubs .
    • The Solution
      • The one and only solution, to our problem is to establish an identity for Amritadhara. To create a platform for Amritadhara. To make it tangible, accessible, and believable . A platform which encompasses information not only about Amritadhara but also about all the clubs, events, fests and student activities in campus.
      • This same platform should help answer the following questions very easily:
      • What is Amritadhara?
      • Which student activity does every individual club initiate?
      • Who are the secretaries, executive members and people to be approached?
      • How to get involved in the club, either by registering for the numerous listed events, or contacting the active members, to help in organization and become active members of the club themselves?
      • Where the events are being held and a calendar of these events to help the students plan the best use of their time?
      • After reviewing the issues, and understanding the reasons behind them, we have come up with one answer….
    • the student portal for Amritadhara
    •
      • Sangam is the student’s portal to Amritadhara. It is the platform which the students will immediately identify Amritadhara with. It will answer all the student’s queries of What? Which? Who? How? And Where?.
      • In other words, it is the answer to ALL our questions.
      • The word Sangam signifies a place where diverse cultures meet and flow together, a place where people of different origins, different cultures merge into one whole combined identity. For us, Sangam brings together all the five clubs of Amritadhara, in one easy to use and interactive platform.
    • How Sangam is the perfect answer:
      • It gives an identity to Amritadhara.
      • It provides the perfect platform that Amritadhara needs to be recognized by the student community.
      • It provides ample information about our college clubs that any students need.
      • The main motive is to be more organized in our approach, with all upcoming events listed on the various pages, students can register for the events they are interested in beforehand.
      • A digital copy of the posters pasted around the campus, can be displayed on Sangam, for the students to recognize.
      • Match fixtures, Latest software downloads, Cultural news, Social issues can be addressed through the personalized club pages.
      • Articles, scripts, poetry, drawing, sketching, photograph for the college wall magazine Dhvani, and upcoming college magazine can be submitted.
      • The views of the students and opinions about how they liked the events and what events they expect in the future can be moderated and published.
      • Any doubt the students have, any queries at all can be dutifully answered to the very best of our abilities.
      • The students will know who to contact, with all the names and contact details of the President, Vice President, Secretaries and Executive Members displayed for their advantage.
      • They can see the results of the previous events , and even the method of judging can be provided for greater transparency .
    • The miracle continues …
      • E@A!
      • Events @ Amrita :
      • Not only will Sangam show the club events but also the various other events happening in Amrita.
      • Amritakalanjali, Amritotasava, Pratibimb, Srishti, the Alumini meet, the Sports meet , etc will each have a dedicated page with details, where students can have easy access to related information and can register for any number of their choice of events.
      • The PHOTO and VIDEO GALLERIA (per event!)
      • will definitely be a big hit with the entire student community as they can visit the memories of each event with a click of a mouse, and since it is an INTRANET (IN CAMPUS) project, the speed for once will not pose any problem!
      • We will have a colorful record of all possible events happening in AMRITA .
      • Special features:
      • Quotes by AMMA (A new quote, every single time!)
      • Upcoming events (displayed from day of announcement till execution of the event)!
      • Highlighted events
      • Opinion Polls
      • Archives (view any event in the past ten years effectively and quickly!)
      • Statistics
    • Managing Sangam
      • Sangam is CMS (Content Managing System), which assures you…
      • Easy editing capabilities (WYSWYG)
      • (WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET)
      • Content gets classified into various categories by the click of a mouse.
      • All users have to register , and can have a separate profile.
      • User registrations are also moderated by the admin.
      • The content posted by the admin as well as the opinions of the students can be easily moderated and comfortably checked for inapropriate use .
      • In Short, the Sangam team will be in total control of the entire operation at all times.
    • Future plans for Sangam
      • Publishing Sangam on the Internet .
      • Using it as an e-magazine for an unlimited and unparalleled source of knowledge.
      • Discussion Forums for various pressing issues.
      • Sangam can grow exponentially and can be a platform for anything at all that we envision.
    • The support ‘Team Sangam’ needs
      • Access to any one of those computers which remains online for most of the time.
      • Remote access to that computer to configure and manage the webserver running on it.
      • (Such access wont be required on a regular basis, only during troubleshooting operations. The moderation and content management can be taken care of from any system on campus by admin.)
      • Sangam’s design requires just two programs to be present on a system..
      • 1. Mozilla Firefox
      • 2. Flash Player
      • Solution:
      • These two softwares can be put up on ftp nodes for easy installation by anyone .
      • One weeks time to get the platform completely up and running. Sangam is an evolving process , as we implement and the students use it, we would get ideas and reviews to make Sangam meet the changing demands of the day.
    • Sangam at its best!
      • A “Sangam” icon will be present on every desktop in campus. i.e. Net labs, Cp labs, Thinnet labs, Library. To make Sangam truly accessible to everyone at anytime.
      • Registration for Sangam will be done using the given registration number of the students , with their own password. This registration will be made compulsory for all students, like the semester registrations.
    • Finally…
      • We sincerely hope that we have made everybody here realize that the need of the hour is a more united and active Amritadhara , and the best solution to this is none other than
      • We assure you that in a weeks time, Sangam will be successfully developed, and we will be ready for the Curtain Raiser with a powerful presentation and campaign for the public which will increase the level of enthusiasm tenfolds !
