The Essential Summary • Culture is like the soil in a garden – slow to change and hard work to make better but can be done. • Climate is like the weather in a garden – changes easily and sets the mood to grow • Both can be influenced positively and negatively by the manager • Two very different micro cultures / climates can exist in the same garden / business • Managers need to constantly turn over or dig the soil to maintain a good culture • Managers need to forecast and influence the weather conditions to provide the best climate • If the climate gets too bad then good managers protect their plants from it e.g. the impact of frosts and heavy rain can be reduced by the implementation of shelter and protection.
