    • Unit 4 IDEA 1
    • 6thform lifestyleQ1. Should we go college or sixth form? More support from teacher / Staying with your friends A- Level PressureThe same environment/ The samepeople / teachers The documentary will focus on the differences between sixth form and college and they benefits between them, such as, sixth form is more familiar because you know the teachers, and students so its much easier to socially adapt to sixth form, whereas colleges you get to make new friends and impress new teachers. So the choice is up to you! The reason this idea inspired me is because I want to find out about people future and what there career aims are.
    • Target AudienceMy primary target audiences for my documentary would be teenagers age 16-19both Male and Female because Sixth from contains students from this age groupand has wide range of hobbies and interest for their future. This will appeal toyoung people, because they are concern about their future and will make themrealize the benefit of college and sixth form and will help them in building uptheir confidence. My secondary audience for my documentary would be parents and career advisorsuch as connection to advise them about their future. They always play a big keyrole in the students life to show what is beneficial for their future and what isnot.
    • Mode (type of documentary)The mode of my documentary will be Fly on the wall. The reason why Ichose this mode is because It will be a real life situations supposedlymade without affecting the behavior of the participants and to portraythe situation as if you are there. Also for my documentary Fly on the wall will link to the observationalmode as I am going to present a greater sense of realism/truth withoutintervention.
    • ConventionsThe convention that I am going to use in my documentary will be voice over,Past footage, Interview, technicality of realism, real footage, visual coding, soundand reconstruction.Voice overThe voiceover will encourage the audience to believe that they have some insideknowledge about what is happening . In this case when we watched ‘Biggie andTupac’ documentary by Nick Broomfield he used lots of voice over from pastfootages to make people to pay more attention.ReconstructionsRe-creating scenes that I cannot film.
    • Past footagePast footages will help aid my documentary by giving me support to add more informationthat I cannot get. Also it is essential to convince the audience that the footages are realand unchanged.Interview with an expertI will use interview in order to confirm the views expressed in my documentary. Sometimesthe audience might disagree with my documentary message but I will disprove them insome way.Technicality of realismI will include natural sound , lighting and locations in my documentary like NickBroomfield’s used in Biggie and Tupac when they run out of sound.
    • Real footageAdding real footage will make my documentary seem as real as possible, using as little non-fiction work or footage as possible like Nick. Broomfields which he did in his documentaryabout Biggie and Tupac to make the audience think that you are there.Visual codingIn my documentary I will be using things like mise en scene and props. For example aperson using doctors equipment such as wearing white coat and wearing a stethoscope willmake you question.SoundListen out for the use of sound that cannot be heard by the films characters, audience andbackground. And make the audience think that why and what effects does it have? Issound used as a bridge between scenes and if so what meaning are made?
    • PurposeThe reason why I am making this documentary is to helpstudents by giving them advise to make the right choice fortheir future and don’t feel under pressure. Also the purpose of my documentary would be to be able toshow the reality of sixth form and college from eyes of thepeople that are currently living with wrong decisions thatthey made. Also to educate students about the society howpeople live their life in Sixth form and College.
    • Mode of AddressThe mode of address for my documentary will informativebecause I am advising the audience by telling themsomething. In my mode of address I will using images todress up my documentary and not make my documentaryboring. My documentary mode of address needs to show a clearimpression in order to catch audience attention and makethem on the edge of their seats with entertaining scene andwell captured location.
    • LengthThe length of my documentary will approximately 5minute. The reason for this is that shortdocumentary are made professional. Also longerthan 5 minutes it becomes boring to watch andaudience would like it.
    • DistributionI will distribute my documentary in BBC Three channelbecause they engage with similar Subjects and issues thatmatter to young people age 16-19 both male and femalewhich will be a benefit for my documentary.
    • Idea 21. Why cricket is a game of mixed ethnicities at a pro and semi pro level but in some schools level it’s been segregated? I will focus on the idea that cricket as a sport is still quite segregated- with thefocus on chestnut school as an example Look at the history of the sport and race referring to the fire of Babylon. Look at the English cricket team. Ravi bopara Samit Patel It is not just ethnicity but religion as well
    • Target AudienceMy primary target audience will be younger peopleage15-19 only male who plays cricket and areinterested in sport. My secondary target audience will be older peopleage 25-40 who are cricket fun and are interested insport.
    • ModeMy documentary will be linking to investigative mode andParticipatory mode . The reason why I chose both as I am going tobe interviewing people internally and externally in mydocumentary. I want my documentary to be more enjoyable tomake the audience think more what’s going to happen next. Itwill be a real life situations documentary catching the realglimpses of the real world. Also for my documentaryparticipatory the participatory modewould would welcome direct engagement betweenmyself and the subjects – I will become part of the event beingrecorded I the filmmaker will impact on the events being recordedis recognized, certainly, it is often distinguished.
    • Mode of addressThe mode of address will be Formal because the costume that I will wear will besmart casual clothing when I am interviewing my interviewer. My documentarywill be set in different location such as school, cricket club, MCC and inMiddlesex County Cricket Club.In my documentary I will not use slang language as it will effect mypresentational style to audience.
    • Conventions Interview Voiceover Expert opinion/public opinion Cutaways Text Music/sound Archive footage Mise en scene
    • length 5 min approx 30 seconds introduction 30 seconds archive footage Interviews Expert opinion Public opinion Conclusion
    • Purpose To investigate the issue of why cricket is a game of mixed ethnicities at a pro and semi pro level but in some schools level it’s been segregated? With regards to international sport, otherwise it will be racism or segregation. Sport should be an encouraging game. For example if you look at the fire of Babylon documentary it shows clearly that it there is still segregation between white Australian and black west Indies.
    • DistributionI am going to distribute my documentary in BBC ONE asit is more of sport channel to audience and providesmore sport coverage. Also they make the same subjectdocumentaries so it will be more of benefit for me as mydocumentary is related to sport and it will help toengage to my target audience.
    • IDEA 3 Crime in LondonQ1. How has crime in London changed over the year e.g. knife crime and gun crime?
    • My documentary will explore gun and knife crime. I will look at howthe law enforcement system try to tackle the problem. Now a day’s young people and ‘knife’ and ‘gun crime’ are at the frontof public attention and an almost regular focus of the media and policymakers in this country. I will be looking to research how these twotypes of crimes happens. The reason why this idea inspired me is because I want to found outwhy these types of activities happens around London and how does itlead teenagers into it.
    • Target AudienceMy Primary target audience for my documentary will be young teenagers aged from 16-19looking at there ranks according to their statistical strength. Also the British Crime Surveystates that the level of knife and gun crimes these age people do has remained establishedIn recent years. Official statistics do not offer a complete picture of gun and knife crimebecause much of it – especially violence between criminals, and offences by children under16 – goes unreported. My secondary target audience will parents because official figures show most young peopleunder 16 are killed by their parents. In 2007/08, 62% of all homicide victims under 16 werekilled by their parents, an increase from 51% in 2006/07.
    • Mode of the documentaryThe mode of the documentary will be My documentary will be linking toinvestigative mode and Participatory mode .
