2. About US
• The Indian Association of Structural Engineers, identified as IAStructE, was
conceptualized and constituted in the year 2002 by a group of senior
professional Structural Engineers from all regions of the country. It was
registered under the Societies Registration Act on 20th December 2002.
IAStructE is a national body of structural engineers established with the
objective to cater to the overall professional needs of structural engineers
in India. We are Gujarat Chapter of the Association.
• Indian Association of Structural engineers, Gujarat chapter is one of the
most active chapters of IAStructE. Since last year the chapter has become
more active and has been involved in organizing training programs,
evening lectures on wide range of topics, discussion forums, online
activities etc.

3. Evening Lectures
• IAStructE Gujarat chapter has been organizing evening
lectures on every 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of the month.
• The sessions are on varied subjects and addressed by experts
in their respective fields.
• These evening lectures are interactive and are well received
by students, practicing engineers and academicians. Listed

7. Induction Training Program
• The Gujarat chapter had organized an “Induction training
Program” in collaboration with Ambuja Knowledge Center in
Feb-March 2014.
• The course was intended for students and young professionals
and was organized for five full Saturdays.
• The training program covered wide range of topics like
Professional practice, Geo technical aspects, Design aspects of
RCC structures and Steel structures, Emerging trends in concrete
technology, Detailing of structures, seismic design etc.
• The training program was attended by total 18 participants.

10. Editorial work in SED
• The Gujarat Chapter was also involved in Editorial activities of
“Structural Engineering Digest”, official publication of
IAStructE.

11. IAStructE Gujarat Website
• Gujarat Chapter of IAStructE has launched its new interactive website www.iaseguj.org.
• While developing the website our main aim was to utilize the latest technologies
available for collaboration & interfacing. We are glad to inform that finally the new
website has been launched. Following shows major features of the website :

13. Responsibilities of Structural Engineer under
GDCR issued by AUDA :
Representations were made to our Association from our members
practicing in Gujarat (mainly Ahmedabad) concerning the hardships
resulting out of GDCR released by AUDA concerning structural
designers/engineers.
We understand the same GDCR are being used in other metropolitan
cities of Gujarat.
The Executive Committee of Gujarat chapter in collaboration with ACCE
went into details about various provisions in GDCR. Legal opinion was also
taken.
This representation is the result of the deliberations of the Executive
Committee of the Association.

14. Preparation of Standard Contract for
Consulting Engineers
Practicing engineer's are facing difficulties in their relationship with
client due to each having their own understanding of Engineer’s
obligation.
In order have a common platform of understanding of obligations and
to safeguard practicing structural, Dr. R N Vakil (Vice-president,
Western Division, IAStructE) has prepared a “Model Service
Agreement” between client and the structural engineer. The same has
been circulated for reference and for inviting views / suggestions of
others.
