This document provides information about a two-day course on narrative ideas and practices for counselors, youth workers, and others. The course will introduce narrative therapy assumptions and overview different narrative practices. Participants will learn about externalization, re-membering conversations, outsider witnesses, and therapeutic documents through experiential exercises, discussions, and demonstration interviews. The course is led by Vivian Navaratnam, a registered social worker and counselor trained in narrative therapy in the US and Australia.

Speaker’s Profile
Vivian Navaratnam is a registered social worker and counsellor. She is trained in Social Work in Family and
Systemic Psychotherapy at postgraduate level. As her passion for Narrative Therapy grew, she went for further
training in Illinois, USA and later in Adelaide, Australia in Narrative Therapy. Her specialization in Narrative
Therapy consists of:
- One year Intensive Narrative Therapy training ( Dulwich Centre, Adelaide)
- Post Graduate Advanced Certificate in Narrative Therapy (Dulwich Centre)
- Post Graduate Diploma in Narrative Approaches to Therapy and Community Work
Her work has brought her on journeys with families, children and adolescents who struggle with the effects
of anxiety, depression, stress and anger arising from a variety of relationship problems, in school, work and family contexts. She is
currently the Counsellor at Barker Road Methodist Church. Vivian is married with 2 teenage children.
