How did me and Kirsten create our brand identity across our three promotional pieces?  To do this me and Kirsten used a range of techniques, listed below.- House colours- Typography- Image motifs- Layout design – similar in the ancillary tasks- Use of still shots from the video used in the digipak/ magazine advert?
Colours To begin with, I will talk about our use of colours, me and Kirsten decided that our genre of music was up beat and seemed harmless, because of this we decided that we will use calm colours in our promotional tasks. As you can see from the three promotional products, there is a lot of white present we felt that this kept our design nice an simple, which we felt reflected on our chosen Artist’s music.
Typography The two images to the left of this, are sections taken from our magazine advert and our digipak, as you can see we have used the same font, in this case ‘Pristina,’ the reason Kirsten and I used this font was because we felt it suited our products and our Artist’s image we were trying to present. When we first started looking into fonts, my first thought was a ‘calligraphy’ style would suit our artist, but after a lot of research into various font’s I soon realized that they were to fancy and perhaps better suited to an opera style. In the end we decided we wanted something that wasn’t bland but wasn’t too fancy, we felt that ‘Pristina’ had the right touch to it that we were looking for. We used ‘Pristina’ as our font for our products, so that our audience would recognise this and link it to Frank Hamilton, so in a way it becomes a part of his image.
Image Motifs A way that a record label promotes their artist is to include a lot of close-up’s of the artist. This makes the audience aware of who they are and therefore take more of an interest. As you can see from our music video we do have a lot of close up’s of the artist, this makes the audience aware of who it is. Also you can see that in our magazine advert we have used their face on our product so that it becomes more popular. From the screenshots I have included you can see a variety of close-ups within our music video and displayed on our magazine advert.
Layout Design Within the design of our three promotional products me and Kirsten agreed that we wanted to keep everything looking simple but not bland. We felt that this would reflect on his music, as we both felt that it was fairly simple yet very effective.Within our music video, digipak and magazine advert we wanted there to be a lot of white space because it was a clean colour and suits all the other designs we wanted to incorporate. From the pictures I have included you can see that we wanted things to be simple, but I feel it had worked well with our song and the way we wanted to go about promoting our Artist.Within the music video where it cuts to our male character singing you can see we have him set against a white wall which sows we thought about how it fits together when designing the other promotional products.
Use of still shots from the video used in the digipak/ magazine advert? Me and Kirsten agreed that for our magazine advert, we would use an image from the footage taken out of our music video as the background image to out advert. The reason we did this was so that we could begin to build up a star motif, enabling the audience to identify our artist. However when it came to our digipak we never really used a shot from our filming footage as part of the design, I think me and Kirsten were trying to promote the digipak as an album not just for the single song, so we wanted it to differ a bit but still reflect on his music. Because of this reason we just kept to a simple design, with a lot of white space and kept information to a minimal but enough that the audience will want to know about.
