• Who am I? Head of UX 4 user experience architects 1 user researcher My team and I are responsible for user experience across all the different brands you see here. Traditionally these have been websites, Because we work across all of these different brands, I’ve had the opportunity to build some amazing apps In fact it was year ago today… Proudest moment was when we featured on the promotional poster for Apple’s keynote event WWDC10
• Share some things we’ve learnt today
• The first thing I want to share with you today is this: Your users will always surprise you if you take the time to listen. Ask them a question and they’ll tell you something interesting. It’s these little interesting things that turn a mediocre product into a great one.
• If you can’t talk to your customers directly your could try Talk to CSR Read feedback (email, Kampyle) Google analytics/Omniture
• Domain Good Food Guide went on sale 1 week before valentines
• Traditionally a lot of what we document in IA has been about states, conditions, flows. Point A  Point B Increasingly however, it’s the things that happen between point A and point B that’s important
• Increasingly the experience is defined not just by the screens and functionality but the ‘feel’ It’s what gives the app personality
• Laziness is one of the most under-rated qualities of a good practitioner I tell this to my boss all the time but he never believes me. Reusing components or experience Search & Refine Membership/Registration Payments Conventions Pattern libraries Frees up your time thinking about more complex interaction problems rather than mundane things like login/registration Consistency
• If the apple marketing hype is to be believed then this is how your users are using the ipad Early stats actually back this up. Avoid having features function that only work in a single orientation A lot of people lock the orientation of their ipad because it’s so sensitive When you get comfortable you don’t want to have to move
• It’s not everyday I have the attention of a crowd of people Both contract and permanent UX positions available so if you’re interested pls come see me afterwards Can the fairfax ux people pls raise your hands?
• Thanks for listening
