Volunteer Summer Volunteering Program FAQs
What type of opportunities will be available?
All sorts! Activities could be anything from ballet to street-dance, chess to football,
storytelling to public speaking and everything in-between.
How will my volunteering benefit the NGO?
The opportunities will see you leading activities arranged by NGOs targeting children
aged between 6 - 15 years and making an impact at a grassroots level. These activities
will not only support the causes of NGOs but will provide you with the opportunity to use
your passion and skills to change the lives of Mumbai’s underprivileged children.
What does my role comprise of?
Apart from volunteering on the agreed hours you are encouraged to share your
experience through blogs, selfies, case studies on social media sites (do tag
iVolunteer). This will ensure that we inspire and onboard more volunteers.
Am I guaranteed to secure a volunteering opportunity?
We hope you secure an opportunity but we are unable to provide you with any
guarantees unfortunately. It depends on how many NGOs subscribe and if their
requirements meet your preferences.
How much time do I need to volunteer?
This is really up to you and the NGO you choose to work with and vice versa. You can
find volunteering opportunities that take up anything from 2 hours per week and
upwards. However volunteers are required to commit time between 15th April - 20th
May 2016.
What is the process for Summer Volunteering Program?
We have a process map for you to follow which clearly indicates what you must do and
when. We highly recommend you follow the process to get the best out of this
opportunity. In case you didn’t have chance to go to go through it already please click
here.
Will iVolunteer or the NGO would be vetting me?
We do not formally vet our volunteers but do expect volunteers to be professional,
respectful and follow at least basic codes of conduct as you would in a professional
workplace . Volunteers would be required to share CVs and a copy of your ID for our
records. However you can expect some sort or vetting depending on the NGO’s
specific volunteering policy.
Do I have to pay for any material of the activity?
The NGO will have the necessary resources, budget, premises and infrastructure to
implement the activities with regards to the Summer Volunteering Program.
Can I donate or provide material to the children I am volunteering with?
No. We are afraid this is not possible. Should you wish to make a donation whether it be
cash or gifts please speak directly with your dedicated NGO contact and they will advise
you of their donation policy. However please note that donations would be outside the
purview of the Summer Volunteering Program and will be a personal choice of the
volunteer.
Can I opt out if it’s not working or my circumstances change?
Yes, of course.
You are under no real obligation to keep volunteering for an organization if it’s not
working or your circumstances change. However, it is critical that you discuss the issues
with your iVolunteer contact or NGO point of contact to resolve it. If you still wish to opt
out please provide the NGO with as much notice as possible and thank them for their
time and support whilst keeping iVolunteer in the loop.
Do I need qualifications?
Not necessarily. Just bags of enthusiasm and a desire to support NGOs with their
children orientated projects. If the nature of the opportunity requires a specific
qualification then this will be clearly stated on the online opportunity description or
communicated by iVolunteer.
Can I get any formal recognition for the volunteering?
We hope that the satisfaction will be reward enough not forgetting gaining confidence,
making a difference, meeting new people, being part of a community, learning new
skills, taking on a challenge and having fun! But of course you can expect a formal letter
of acknowledgement from the NGO on successful completion of the volunteering
opportunity.
Where do I find the volunteering opportunities?
Please search for all available Summer Volunteering Program opportunities on our
website here or complete our Summer Volunteering Program registration here and we
will work hard to connect you to incoming opportunities.
What kind of information should I ask the NGO?
We would be encouraging the NGO fill a detailed volunteer description however we
would urge you to flesh out the role and agree the nitty gritties e.g. number of hours a
week, duration of volunteering, travel expenses, resources/material costs, target
audience, arrangement of the premises or venue, first day procedures and schedules
and communication methods in a personal one to one meeting.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
18 or over please.
What support will I have?
We will provide you with a Summer Volunteering Program toolkit which includes these
FAQs along with a process map and further information about the children of the
Summer Volunteering Program. We will also contact you at the beginning, middle and
end of the volunteering opportunity to see how things are going. We encourage you to
seek support from the NGO you are volunteering for as they are the experts in the field
and will usually have the answers otherwise please contact iVolunteer.
Do I get my travel expenses paid?
Travel expenses must be covered by the volunteer unless otherwise agreed with the
NGO.
Do I have to pay iVolunteer a membership fee?
The service offered by iVolunteer for Summer Volunteering Program to both NGOs as
well as volunteers is completely free.
None of these FAQs answer my question, what do I do now?
If we haven’t covered your question then please do not hesitate to contact us on
mumbai@iVolunteer.in
