Case Study "Building Healthcare IT Careers for our Military Veterans"
The problem…
∙ There are 2.3 million American vets of the Iran and Afghanistan wars
∙ 20% suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder of which 50% do not seek treatment
∙ 19% of veterans have Traumatic Brain Injury (~260,000)
∙ A veteran commits suicide every 18 hours (exceeding all battlefield deaths)
∙ Current unemployment rate is 10% (Aug 2013)

This presentation will explore the reasons for these grim statistics and describe the holistic and innovative approach being taken by Rush University Medical Center to prepare veterans for healing along with strategies for career building in the hot healthcare IT job market.

Learning objectives:

∙ Understand the difficulties military veterans face upon returning home
∙ Discover the dynamic of the changes experience within the military family
