  • When John Blem and Henrik Friborg Jacobsen founded Milestone back in 1998, we didn’t have an exact and strong vision for were to take the company but we had something else: we had a determination to make a difference by creating innovative software products and do business internationally. we had some rare software engineering skills; we knew how to make mission critical software systems for handling of real time data And then we had a good consultancy software business creating a healthy economy So what exactly did we at the time back in ’98. We had an extensive knowledge from previous careers of creating server farms that could handle incoming real time data from bank and exchanges all over the world; Our data systems then converted this data to a common format; Applied certain business logic; Stored the incoming data efficiently in real time to data bases; And re-distributed this data to clients in various locations in real time as well; All this was naturally a mission critical 24/7 operation; - very few software companies actually posses such skills of handling massive amounts of incoming data with redistribution in real time
  • As Lars mentioned earlier today we launched our first IP video surveillance product called Surveillance PRO back in late ’99 We attended ISC West in 2001 as our first major industry event in the US So how was business and the market reaction; Well I guess it is fair to say that business was slow and the security industry reacted with a certain skepticism; At that time the market was almost purely analog and digital recording only occurred in expensive large installations; At the same time most people could see the IP technology really opened up a lot of possibilities; But nobody in the security industry really believed this was a revolution to come As you can see we changes things quite a lot since then
  • The company story Today, Milestone Systems is the industry leader in developing true open platform IP video management software. The XProtect™ platform gives users a powerful surveillance solution that is easy to manage, reliable and proven in more than 50,000 customer installations worldwide. With support for the industry’s widest choice in network hardware and integration with other systems, XProtect provides best-of-breed solutions to “video enable” organizations – reducing costs, optimizing processes, and protecting assets. In addition to Denmark, Milestone software is sold through authorized partners in approximately 90 countries.
  • Slide 10: John Blem E: If you were to ask our CTO, John Blem, he would probably say: “ It’s all about decoupling SW from HW to give users freedom to choose the best combination that truly meets their business needs…” M: I’ve heard John say that many times, but what does he really mean? E: Looking at it from a customer’s point of view, an IT manager if you like, it’s about living a commitment to always let the customer freely mix and match both software and hardware to create a solution that, as seen through their eyes, meets their needs exactly. The crucial thing here is, “as seen through their eyes”, the manufacturer should not put up requirements or conditions, it’s always the customer that makes the choice. That’s a true open platform solution and it’s our job as manufacturers to make the different parts work together seamlessly. M: That sounds great but aren’t there usually at least some conditions form manufacturers. E: Depending on the complexity of the solution, you’re right I guess. But as the manufacturer starts to dictate requirements for the customer’s solution…
  • Our Mission : why we are here We enable our customers to optimize their business processes by delivering an open and independent IP video surveillance software platform. Vision : where we are going We want to drive the global convergence of video surveillance and IP-based business systems. Message from the CEO Milestone Systems wants to tell the world what business we are in and where our business is headed. At successful companies, people know this and are focused because everyone has a clearly defined purpose and future direction to strive for. This goes a long way to keeping great employees happy - and attracting new ones. In the same way, a set of shared values gets everyone moving to the same rhythm. Values are the shared beliefs and ethics that people live by on a daily basis. Defining these values makes it clear how we want to act and what should drive our decisions, making sure our organizational culture contributes to our strategic objectives. When you have fulfilling and progressive mission, vision and values statements, they become the lifeblood of the company and the reason for the way things get done. We believe our entire network of Milestone stakeholders – employees, partners and customers alike – share our enthusiasm and commitment: we are all doing our part to help make the world safer with new technology. • IdentityPeople Video analytics is one of the hot topics right now. We don’t believe big time sales is going on yet. But different kinds of video analytics has become a customer requirement in almost all of the big tenders we see these days. We have take the best of breed partnering strategy to video analytics and we are developing an analytics framework where we will work with multiple of the leading video analytics companies so we can offer these to our customers. We have found partners for different types of analytics: general video analytics (object tracking, trip wire etc.), license plate recognition and face recognition. In excess of the partners we will be working more actively with we can offer various solutions from our Solution Partners.
  • Answers users’ issues that were: Too many options/tools Difficult to use Operating cost too high
  • Milestone’s open platform and SDK (software development kit) are the enablers in linking various components, systems and industries. Software is clearly the key piece in connecting the IP video ecosystem.
  • The Solution: An open platform IP video management solution One challenge in video analytics today is integrating user interfaces when video analytics solutions are used with a video surveillance system. This is particularly true if you are deploying several video analytics products (or plan to add new ones in the future). You don’t want to overburden your staff with learning several different interfaces. Open platform IP video surveillance management software like Milestone XProtect™ provides an invaluable framework for integrating and managing a wide variety of video analytics products under one interface. This is important because most video analytics systems offer one, or at most two, types of detections per camera, and the same one or two detections for all cameras in the system. Thus, to build a flexible system capable of detecting many types of security threats or collecting a variety of types of business intelligence, you need an open platform IP video surveillance management system that gives you a central console for controlling, operating and collecting data from all your video analytics solutions. An open platform IP video surveillance management solution also enables greater integration between security systems such as an access control card reader and your surveillance cameras. By having video analytics watch an entry, you can reduce manpower while increasing accuracy. For example, if two people gain access by one card (tailgating), video analytics can alert a patrolling guard or central command station and provide a video clip for identification of the unauthorized person. Naturally, one of the biggest advantages of an open platform IP video surveillance management solution is that it enables the use of commercial off-the-shelf computing hardware. It gives you a platform where components from different manufacturers can be combined, added and upgraded over time to suit your needs and budget. This lowers your total cost of ownership (TCO) and provides greater flexibility in meeting your evolving security or other surveillance needs. The fact is, each manufacturer of a component of a security system – whether it’s an intelligent IP network camera, video analytics software, access control system, etc. – is good at producing their component, but someone needs to provide the overall interface. It is this central interface that enables the user to unlock all the power of using these devices and use them together as a total solution. That’s the role of the platform. And that’s why you need to carefully select it right from the beginning or make a transition to a more comprehensive platform if you find yourself limited by your current one.
