  3. 3. The Dash — <ul><li>Rule 1 </li></ul><ul><li>A detour or interrupter </li></ul><ul><li>Can be used in place of a colon </li></ul><ul><li>Remember, you need an independent clause before the dash </li></ul><ul><li>It was my worst nightmare — cold pizza. </li></ul>
