Paradox 1 The star must be simultaneously ordinary and extraordinary for the consumer In all of these pictures you can see Beyoncé, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus all performing on stage along with picture of them doing ‘normal’ things. Dyer says that the star must be simultaneously ordinary and extraordinary for the consumer. Here we see the stars being extraordinary on stage whereas ordinary when shopping, walking the dog or on the tube.
  • 2. Paradox 2 The star must be simultaneously present and absent Here you can see stars: Justin Bieber; Chris Brown and Zayn Malik (One Direction) being simultaneously present and absent. Justin Bieber going from being on stage to being photographed with a prostitute. Zayn Malik going from being on stage to smoking illegal substances. Chris Brown going from being on stage to being in court for beating up his then girlfriend Rihanna.
