HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE BY JESSICA WILSON, ON “THE MAGICIAN”
Attracting Fans from Past films
Core audience Age – 18 to 30, We are attracting this audience based on a variety of techniques. The older audience will be attracted by the black and white feature of the film as a younger audience would not find this as visually appealing along with the date that it is set in opposed to an older audience who would. However it also appears to a younger audience as it is filmed in the same way as Sin City where the certain key features are in colour and the rest is in black and white. Another reason that a younger audience will be attracted to the film is the blood scene in the scene later giving an indication that the girl has died.
Attracting a Male Audience Here we have attracted a male audience by having the magicians assistant wearing a figure hugging, short, slinky gold dress. This makes the woman look very seductive to a male audience. A male audience would also be attracted to the movie due to its setting of a dusky nightclub in a city, this would be intriguing as it will be exciting to watch as it is a place of entertainment. The males will also be attracted to this film as the lead role is a very swave character which a lot of males will find very cool, which is also a reason why a lot of people watch the James Bond films.
Female Audience Females would be attracted to the movie because of the handsome actor playing the magician, this is a factor that entices a lot of woman to go to the theatre.  Women would also go watch the film because of the relationship value of the film possibly between the magician and another woman, adding romance to the film, which is something that women like to go and watch in the cinema’s
Challenging the niche market Although our film is targeted at a niche market of men and people interested in fantasy (magicians and magic) our film also targets a mainstream audience due to the fact that because our film has a photographic element of Sin City which we know is a very popular film with all ages keeping it all in black and white, However making some key elements a focus in colour, just as we have above with the redness of the blood, drawing the audience in to a more thrilling picture that it would have been if we had kept it all in black and white.
