  • Aerospace_Insert-Potting 2/26/10 10:49 AM Page 1 Advanced Materials Insert Potting with Huntsman Aerospace Products Lightweight, high-performance materials from Huntsman have long been preferred by leading aircraft manufacturers and repair facilities to reliably reinforce honeycomb composite panels before inserting fasteners. The fasteners are used to install components in composite floor panels, galley walls, bulkheads and lavatory cabinets. Among the epoxy syntactic systems frequently specified for aircraft composite reinforcing are: Epocast® 1618-D/B low-density epoxy syntactic, Epocast® 1633-A/B low-density epoxy syntactic and Epocast® 1652-A/B medium-density epoxy syntactic. Uralane® 5774-A/B polyurethane adhesive is also used for potting of inserts made from materials such as Torlon® polyamide-imide. The Huntsman insert potting materials are either self-extinguishing or flame-retardant to satisfy FAA regulations. Physical performance properties include: Qualified to Boeing, Sikorsky and other OEM specifications Easy to handle viscosities High strength Ability to withstand temperatures up to 350ºF, depending on product
