  2. 2. What is Poverty? <ul><li>Poverty is basically the state of being poor such as having a lack of basic materials </li></ul><ul><li> defines “Poverty” as the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor </li></ul>
  3. 3. Background Information <ul><li>About 25,000 people die everyday of hunger related issues. </li></ul><ul><li>People in Poverty live in conditions of low quality housing… </li></ul><ul><li>Droughts and floods often destroy their harvests. </li></ul>

The Main Problem <ul><li>People are dying. </li></ul><ul><li>Children are not getting education. </li></ul><ul><li>Selfishness of people, not trying to help the poor. </li></ul><ul><li>Unaware of this issue. </li></ul><ul><li>Many people believe that the government is taking care of it so they don’t have to </li></ul>
  5. 5. How is it affecting the world? <ul><li>Half of the world’s population is in poverty </li></ul><ul><li>About 25,000 people die everyday because of starvation. </li></ul><ul><li>Factory workers are mainly poor people </li></ul><ul><li>Conflicts might happen </li></ul>
  6. 6. What is being done? <ul><li>In September 2000, 189 UN member pledged to halve global poverty by 2015. </li></ul><ul><li>United Nations Development Program </li></ul>

Poverty Background in India <ul><li>27.5 percent of Indians live below the national income poverty line </li></ul><ul><li>14% of people in Rajasthan are below the poverty line (15 million people) </li></ul><ul><li>Half of the children are undernourished </li></ul><ul><li>Not much children are getting education </li></ul>
  9. 10. <ul><li>India plays major role in world economy and manufacturing products. </li></ul><ul><li>India is developing rapidly but Poverty is also expanding. </li></ul><ul><li>Poverty won’t end if children don’t get education. </li></ul>Why did we choose this topic?

  14. 18. What are they doing? <ul><li>They run non formal education centers, literacy camps in urban slums </li></ul><ul><li>Survey on 22 schools… </li></ul><ul><li>Improving agriculture </li></ul><ul><li>improve the water conservation system and the electricity connection </li></ul>

  17. 21. Our Aims <ul><li>Help out the suffering children in Rajasthan by donating money </li></ul><ul><li>Improve the education of the children in Rajasthan </li></ul><ul><li>Inform the public about this issue </li></ul>

Our Short term Plan <ul><li>1)Paste the poster around expat communities </li></ul><ul><li>2) Make the poster in Chinese version and paste it around local communities </li></ul><ul><li>3) Earn money by selling food and drinks </li></ul><ul><li>4) Donate the money to Shanghai Red Cross </li></ul>

Our Long term Plan <ul><li>We would spread the awareness of the issue not just in Shanghai but in places like Nanjing or Hangzhou when we get there by handing out leaflets. </li></ul><ul><li>We would make giving tree bags and give them to international schools so that others could contribute and donate things for the poor. </li></ul>
