Wick Watchers

  1. 1. Wick Watchers Purpose : To observe and record the differences in a candle before, during, and after it burns. Research : Gather information on candles and the behavior of fire. Hypothesis : What changes will the candle exhibit after it burns - or will there be no changes?
  2. 2. Experiment : Materials - Balance, Candle, Aluminum dish, Ruler, Colored Pencils, Journal Procedure - (1)Make qualitative and quantitative observations of candle. (2)Teacher will light candle then you will make qualitative observations as the candle burns. (3)Teacher will extinguish candle, after the wax cools, you will make qualitative and quantitative observations. (4)Observe any differences.
  3. 3. Analysis : Record your findings and discuss reasons for changes or why there were no changes. Conclusion : Record whether your hypothesis was correct or not and summarize what you learned from the investigation. Practice using a triple beam balance by clicking the picture below:
