Editor's Notes
On a scale of 1 – 10 – How responsible are you for your own life? 1= “Everyone has always been against me and have held be down = NOT a coaching candidate!! 10 = “Well I guess I have created the GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY in my life so far.”Seeking BETTERMENT for themselves and their personal and/or professional communities.Ready for MORE --- Learning, responsibility, challenge, vitality, clarity, meaning, happiness, . . . I will share in a few minutes – the applications of coaching in the corporate setting – who would benefit from coaching in your organization.
Coaching - not giving advise, not sharing the coach’s experience and strategies for successMentors sharing - who you have to know, who you have to work for to get ahead. It’s been the mentor’s agenda, sharing the mentor’s experience and strategies for success.
Protégé Model – cloning – making my mentee in my image – This worked prior to and for most of the 20th century – when work forces and management were with their company for 20-40 years, when there was not global competition, when product life cycles were measured in years rather than months or even weeks. There was time for this type of grooming, and molding of an individual. The Mentee very likely could use the 30 or 40 year strategies of their 65 year old mentor. The emerging Mentor-coach Model focuses on developing the unique brilliance, natural strengths and driving passions of the mentee to prepare him/her for the unforeseen changes that will impact their leadership roles and demands.
Everywhere –In school systems – management, leadership – teacher’s professional Development In governmental agencies – US Congressmen, United Nation Delegates (future Head’s of State), Civil servants working for local communities in NGO’s and nonprofits – volunteers, staff, executive directors, and boards of TrusteesIn Prisons – for the inmates (learning how to communicate without violence) and for management to be more effective managers and leaders- OH – and in businesses small and large in virtually every country in the world. (The ICF has member coaches from XX countries)
