  2. 2. AIM OF THE COURSEThe aim of the course is to provide a deeper understandingof scientific theories and methods relevant for mediatechnology research. After completed course, the studentshould be able to:identify and critically examine media technology researchoutline and analyze scientific theories relevant for mediatechnology researchoutline and analyze scientific methods relevant for mediatechnology researchidentify methodological problems in a research studyanalyze the relationship between results that have beenobtained in a study and the conclusions that legitimately canbe drawn on the basis of the results.
  3. 3. COURSE CONTENTThe course consists of five themes and one group project.The themes and group work are mainly addressed as appliedin media technology research. The themes are:1. Research publications and Theory of science (week 44)2. Theory (week 45)3. Qualitative methods (week 46)4. Quantitative methods (week 47)5. Design research (week 48) Group work presentations (week 49)

  5. 5. ASSESSMENTIndividual learning portfolio (blog) – grades A-FGroup project - Fail, Pass, Good or High qualityThe individual portfolio is the most important part of grading,but the group project also influences your final grade
  6. 6. INDIVIDUAL LEARNINGPORTFOLIO (BLOG)You are expected to write a blog posting prior to each theme.In this posting you will address questions/assignments. Thedeadline for a posting on no more than 600 words is Fridaysat 17.00 of the previous week. For example, for the firsttheme conducted during week 44, your deadline is Friday,Oct 26.You are also expected to write a blog posting after eachtheme. In this posting, which should not encompass morethan 400 words, you are expected to reflect on what youlearnt during the week. The deadline is Thursdays at 17.00.For example, for the first theme conducted during week 44,your deadline is Thursday, Nov 1.For further details on grading, see the course guidehttps://www.kth.se/social/page/course-guide/
  7. 7. GROUP PROJECTThe group project is to be conducted in groups of fourstudents. All students should belong to the same seminargroup. In this project, you will have the possibility to focuson a topic that you find interesting, which is clearly relevantfor the course.
