  • Operations Manager 9 on Linux is the latest big bang in the Operation Management space. An overview demo of the product and Tips & Tricks about internals will be shown. Examples such as How to run in VMWare + cloning, What you need to know to do a successful upgrade to OM 9, How to be very efficient with the new features such as policy parameterization and more
  • We have been taking steps to shrink the gaps between the OMW and OMU product lines. OMU 9 allows much more policy compatibility with OMW, making it easier to leverage your work between the two products.Customers can leverage their training and knowledge of OM across platforms as OMU 9.0 and OMW converge. With the new licensing, we expect more license swaps between OMU and OMW.subagent – log file encapsulator, monitor agent, service discovery agent. OMU 8.x couldn’t use WBEM subagent or service discovery agentAdvanced policy exchange include WMI (WBEM), service discovery, advanced monitors like adaptive threshholds
  • New in OMU9‘Monitoring’ policy types: Windows Management Interface Windows Event Log Service Process Monitoring Service Auto DiscoveryPolicy types for configuration purposes only: Node Info ConfigFile‘Artificial’ policy type utilizing versioning/assignment/deployment: SubagentModified in OMU9Measurement Threshold (previously Monitor)Improved subagent handlingThe improved subagent handling is not directly related to the OMW alignment/convergence. It is an improvement on the existing subagent handling; the fact that it is policy-based is from the technology point of view irrelevant in this context. The new policy technology is used to improve the mechanism.
  • Number of parallel agent connections to the Mgmt Svr can be around 12.000 for OML (server hotfix to be applied)
  • Student NotesUsing duplicate IP addresses for different nodes is helpful when you manage an environment with independent subnets that have overlapping IP addresses, which are unique within a network in a private IP address range, but are not unique globally. Default of OPC_ALLOW_DUPLICATE_IP is FALSE.Note: In OMU 8.x the scenario of overlapping IP addresses in different subnets was already supported using unique dummy IP addresses. Such dummy IP addresses are not needed with OMU/L 9.10 anymore.
  • Student NotesInformation from ‘HP Operations Manager Server Configuration Variables’ manual for the UNIX and Linux operating systems, edition 3:OPC_CSA_ALLOW_IP_MISMATCHDescription :By default, certificate requests are not automatically mapped, if the IP address in the certificate request does not match the IP address in the node bank. If OPC_CSA_ALLOW_IP_MISMATCH is set to TRUE, a certificate request will be mapped automatically, even though the IP address in the certificate request is no the same as in the database. This may be needed to automatically map certificate requests from multi homed hosts.Type/Unit : boolDefault : FALSEDocumented :Since Rel. : A.08.35.010ObsoleteSince. :Used In : namespace: opc (>=OVO8)Search-Keys : CSA
  • Student NotesLicensingA license reporting tool, OM License Reporter (omlicreporter), is introduced to enable checking statusand availability of the HPOM licenses as well as generating HTML license reports. In cluster environments the licenses can be installed on the shared disk. Only one license is required or a HA cluster, which is different from previous releases, when multiple licenses were required. The Admin UI does not run without a valid server license.
  • Student NotesHPOM now ships the MIB2Policy tool which allows to create SNMP trap policies from MIB config files.
  • Student NotesMinor aspect:OPC_DONT_LOG_REUSED_COREIDS can be used to switch back to the former (8.x and 9.0x) behavior
