TEARS-HP Partnership <ul><li>TEARS partnered with HP to offer a whole new course called GET-IT. </li></ul><ul><li>This course has proved to be very effective as the entrepreneurs testify how the course exposes them to a range of technology tools that help them choose individual technologies to solve their different business challenges. </li></ul>
TEARS-Nashuatec Partnership <ul><li>TEARS Group Kenya has partnered with Nashutec Digital Education Centre to strengthen the HP-GET-IT course by offering basic computer applications. </li></ul><ul><li>This is because the team learnt that offering GET-IT as a stand alone course would limit its target group since some of them do not have computer basics, one of the students prerequisites for the GET-IT course. </li></ul>
Beneficiaries’ Testimonies <ul><li>Daudi Bakari “In the past, I couldn’t trace my business cards every time I wanted to communicate to my suppliers and customers in my Outside Catering business, this had adverse effects on my business. But since I took the GET-IT course, I have all business cards in my computer and a backup in my flash disk, my business is improving, thanks to TEARS and HP for the GET-IT course.” </li></ul><ul><li>Sophia Wangari “When the trainer introduced marketing module, I said to my desk mate that am going to drop out because I strongly believed that marketing can only be done by professionals, but when the trainer introduced it and gave the different types of marketing that were so easy to understand, i was so happy because I can now design my own fliers, posters and many more to market my business.” </li></ul>
Achievements <ul><li>So far we have trained 10 TEARS Staff, 12 Volunteers and 14 young entrepreneurs and 7 are on training. </li></ul><ul><li>Setting up the GET-IT Village with the available resources. </li></ul><ul><li>Successful adoption of the GET-IT curriculum into TEARS Training system </li></ul><ul><li>The bright faces of trained entrepreneurs tell it all because the trainees come back with bright faces praising the course as they are now able to solve some of their business challenges using technology. </li></ul><ul><li>The GET-IT course has enhanced TEARS relationship with other IT institutions e.g. Nashuatech Digital Centre, WANG Point among others who are of good help to our project. </li></ul>
Challenges <ul><li>Project’s staff sustainability </li></ul><ul><li>Differentiating the new course GET-IT and normal computer packages is a bit tricky because people are not aware about it. </li></ul><ul><li>Cost of operation including Maintenance, Insurance cover and protection. </li></ul>
Future Focus. <ul><li>Collaborate with IT institutions to train students and staff on GET-IT, this will boost our numbers. </li></ul><ul><li>Expanding the new GET IT centre to cover wider area in Nakuru Town and its Environs including Molo,Njoro and Naivasha </li></ul><ul><li>Improve networking and linkages with other GET-IT centres around the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Leverage on other available resources to ensure centres growth. </li></ul><ul><li>Conduct mobile ICT Outreach sessions in tertiary colleges, institutions and business premises </li></ul>
