In the transformation of tourism into an important part of the Albanian economy, “The Tourism Development Strategy 2003-2012” has been implemented point by point. For implementing the strategy related to the development of sustainable tourism and for the redesign of Albania’s tourist image, a number of promotional activities have been underta- ken which make possible the re-evaluation of Albanian tour- ism.   2. 2. yours to discoverThe Mission and the Objectives of the National Agency of TourismThe National Tourism Agency exercises activities in support and implementation of theConstitution of the Republic of Albania, decision of the Council of Ministers (DCM), N.571,date 05.09.2007, Law n.9734, date 14.05.2007 “For Tourism” and other legal and sub legalacts in force, including: the application of governmental and national policy in the fieldof tourism, the establishment and promotion of the Albanian tourism identity throughthe development of existing tourist potential.The National Tourism Agency’s main purpose is the application of state and national policies inthe field of tourism, the promotion and the creation of identity of tourism in Albania through thedevelopment of its current tourist potential, the implementation of the main points of the NationalTourism Strategy and the preparation of programs for financial assistance for private-sectordevelopment which includes the following.On a more specific scale, these are: The design and development of Albanian marketing on the international level, the coordinationand support of regional marketing activities, the organization for and the representation of Albaniain tourism fairs and international exhibitions. The formulation and publication of promotional publications in accordance with the demands ofthe international, regional and domestic tourism markets. The maintenance and the updating of official websites related to tourism promotion in Albaniaand the processing of data on the tourism potential of the country with the purpose of improvingthese websites. The formulation of financial assistance programs for tourism enterprises from the tourismdevelopment fund and the presentation of the programs of financial assistance to the ministerresponsible for tourism. The administration of tourism development fund in accordance with the decision of Councilof Ministers for “Rules on the use of the tourism development fund”. The monitoring of the recipients of financial assistance according to the law “for tourism” and,in the occurrence of violations to this law, the proposing, as needed, to the Minister responsible fortourism, the suspension of assistance to those recipients.   3. 3. yours to discover The Promotion of Albania The National Tourism Agency through the Marketing-Promotion Department formulates and implements marketing for the development of Albanian tourism on the national and international levels, supports regional marketing activities, organizes and represents the country in fairs and tourist exhibitions. It also designs and publishes promotional materials in accordance with the demands and trends of tourism on the international, regional, local market. Participation in Fairsand Promotional Activities yours to discoverThe National Tourism Agency also has the dutyof participating in different fairs and nationaland international promotional activities.The National Tourism Agency represents Albaniain some of the most important fairs: ITB Fair - Germany. with a tradition over 40 years old,it is considered one of the most important internationaltourism fairs, with participation by more than 180countries. WTM Fair - England. As usual is always identified inthis fair the large numbers of business visitors with thepurpose to discover Albania as a tourist destination andits resources. Köln Fair - Germany (Business to Business). The mainfocus of this activity is tourism by bus, an activity hasrecently shown great growth potential in Albania. Matka Fair - Finland. The National Tourism Agencypresented Albania’s many tourism opportunities totourism agencies and interested individuals alike. Prishtina Fair - Kosovo. The main aim for this fair wasthe development of cooperation with private tourismentities to stimulate the interest of tourists from Kosovoalong the Adriatic and the Ionian coasts. Jaarbeurs Utrecht, Vakantiebeurs, Utrecht Fair -Holland. Much effort was spent in this fair discussingthe existence and development of campgrounds andinfrastructure. Munich Fair - Germany. The importance of thisexhibition was in attracting organized and individualtourists from the region of Bavaria.   5. 5. yours to discover Promotional Publications One of the successes of the National Tourism Agency during 2009 was the design and the updating of the promotional brochures, with a modern design and layout illustrated with photos, which detail, the resources and the beauties of Albanians tourist destinations. The content and the graphical design of this set is an innovation in the presentation of natural and cultural values of the country. We express gratitude for Peace Corps volunteers for the editing of the English text to better present Albania’s tourism potential. The set is accompanied with the Promotional Booklet of the National Tourism Agency, which gives a general presentation of Albanian Tourism and a short description about the institution. Also a new tourist road map, including the most visited location, has been created as a collaboration of the German Development Fund GTZ and the General Directory of Roads. The set contains: “The 40 guest-houses”, “The Visitors Guide”, “The Nature and the Activities”, “The Cultural Heritage”, “The Tours in Albania”, “The brochure of culinary”, the tourist map, the promotional posters, etc. The Guide for Visitors Is a general tourist information guide in a practical, geographic, historic, linguistic and cultural sense. The brochure also discusses population, climate, religion, economics, agriculture, natural resources, and political structure. Additionally, it contains information on the postal and telephone systems, diplomatic residences, the monetary system and border crossing points. It is a bi-lingual brochure: in Albanian and English. Traditional Albanian Cuisine This brochure discusses the art of cooking in Albania as a significant part of the culture of our country. The brochure is divided into three parts, each of them discussing the particular characteristics of the cuisine of northern, central and southern Albania. Tours in AlbaniaThe brochure was conceived with the division of Albania yours to discoverinto ten tourist areas and with point of departure as,Mother Teresa Airport, the port of Durres and Vlora.Each tour describes with captions and through maps thespecific route to be taken, as well as specific informationabout the cultural and natural surroundings of each areatell more about the culture and the nature of the country.It is a bi-lingual brochure: in Albanian and English.The Nature and the ActivitiesThis brochure is presented in Albanian and English andgives the possibility to the foreign tourist to recognizethe natural beauty of Albania. It presents the coast,natural and artificial lakes, rivers, islands, mountains,national parks, and discusses the opportunities foradventure sports including hiking, skiing, and boatracing, and fishing, sky diving, and diving.The Cultural HeritageIt’s a brochure that includes parks and archeologicalsites, medieval monasteries, castles, ancient bazaars, thequarters with the characteristics houses, the religiousbuildings, bridges and museums. In this brochure onemay be informed, about the cultural heritage and theethnographic elements which have survived untilnowadays.The 40 inns“The 40 inns of Albania” brochure, offers detailedinformation about the possibilities that provides thenorth of Albania for the development of mountaintourism. At the same time makes it possible thefacilitation of accommodation and visiting the northernareas.The Tourist MapThe Tourist Maps are considered one of the successes ofthe year 2009 about completing the tourist set where areestablished in the best way, the main road axes and thedistances between cities.
