1. 1. Infusing Technology and K-12 Instruction
I
2. 2. Technology can bridge gaps in language barriers
Arising from the informed understanding of a variety of language instructional programs technology can be beneficial and successfully used, regardless of whether the classroom setting is mainly bilingual or contains an ESL (English as a second language) component. (Svedkauskaite, 2003)
3. 3. Technology supports cooperation
Students learn to work together while learning together.
4. 4. Technology can make lesson plans easier
.
Given the amount of software that is available to teachers, even lesson planning becomes a much easier task.
5. 5. Technology saves time
“Since teachers do not have to present or grade drill and practice, students can practice on their own while the teacher addresses other students needs.”(ETIT,81)
6. 6. Technology tutorials enable self-paced instruction
“Students often need to repeat instruction on a topic after the teacher’s initial presentation. Tutorials can provide self-paced instruction to address all those needs.”(ETIT, 85)
7. 7. Technology and ESL Students
Technology is a fast growing support system that enables individuals to be more proficient on any topic they choose. I see technology as the key to bridging the gap that exists between LEP, ESL students and their peers. (Holmes, 2010)
