• 1. Events That Have Influenced My Life To Make Me Who I Am Today By: Michaela Wheeler
 • 2.

This is the house I grew up in, where I spent my childhood. I have many memories from this house that I will keep with me forever. I enjoyed living in this house because it was set back from the road and living here made me feel like we were in our own world, full of wildlife and adventures. Living here makes me realize how lucky I was to have a nice home, and has taught me to be thankful for parents who can provide me with such nice belongings.

 • 3.

The farm was just up the driveway, but it seemed like a completely different world. Here I learned about life; I helped my dad with the delivery of calves, and played with the ducks and chickens. Having a “mini-farm” was a part of my life, and it taught me to look at animals and life in a way that no one else could because they did not have a farm.

 • 4.

My grandfather, a.k.a. Papa, made me laugh and teased me. He lived with us in the in-law apartment that was attached to our house, and was great company. I miss him and wish that he could have been in my life more. He made me realize that you need to take advantage of the time you are given.

 • 5.

Another teaser, my Uncle Russ fills my mind with many memories. His famous trick was when he had me sit on the floor, and he would spill water in front of me. Then he would say, “I can make this puddle disappear without touching it.” When I asked how, he took my legs and pulled my through it, with my pants wiping up the water. Although he played tricks on me, I still loved him. When he died six years ago I thought it was from brain cancer, but last year I learned that he actually committed suicide because he did not want my family to have to be troubled by his illness.

 • 6.

My childhood friends, Oscar, the “white man” and Dar, my trustworthy old pal, were always there for me when I needed a buddy to play with or someone who I could tell my secrets to. They taught me the valuable lesson that animals are on this planet to give their love and comfort.

 • 7.

Because my mom had to go back to work shortly after I was born, she enrolled me in a day care program where I learned all my basics from A,B,C’s to making friends. I have carried out these lessons throughout my life, and will never forget them because I use them in everyday life.

 • 8.

Going to a Catholic school and being brought up in church has played a big role in my life. It has instilled morals which I will hold onto forever that allow me to know that God is always with me, making life a little easier.

 • 9.

These three animals are more than my pets, they are part of the family. They all have very distinct personalities and they mean the world to me. I have always had animals in my life, and, when I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Having them around has taught me how to be compassionate, loving, caring, patient, and forgiving.

 • 10.

Moving to Goshen and living on Tyler Lake has made me learn how to adjust to new surroundings and accept change.

 • 11.

Going to a new school has felt like a new door has been opened and has allowed me to have a new opportunity with new people and new experiences. I have been influenced to grow and reach out and become more outgoing.

 • 12.

Having a nephew, Kevin, has brought joy to the lives of my family, but it is also a tremendous responsibility. My brother Jared is now a single dad with a monthly child support payment. I have gained insight on the responsibilities of raising a family, and have seen that people need to make sure they are getting married for the right reasons, not just because they have had a child.

 • 13.

My trip to Japan has allowed me to grow up and it made me gain a sense of independence.

 • 14.

Getting my license has been a big deal for me because it has furthered my independence. Also, this has caused me to gain more trust from my parents because they have learned to let go a little more.
