Logistics  Staff will be divided into assigned heterogeneous groups of 4-6 individuals. Each slide of the presentation will include questions that will be discussed in the assigned small groups and as a large group. Videos provided can be accessed by clicking on the pictures on each slide (videos are hyperlinked to the images provided).
  3. Discussion Points  How is the world flat? What is globalization? What are the attributes of 21st Century learners? Is competition in education healthy? How do we change education from within to adapt to global trends?
  4. How is the world flat?  1. As a group, discuss your understanding of globalization. (2-3 minutes) 2. Let’s watch the video provided to hear how our world is flat. 3. After watching this video, as a group, discuss how a flat world affects education today. What are the implications for our students? (5-7 minutes) 4. Large group discussion: What is globalization, and what are its implications for education today? (5-7 minutes)
  5. What is globalization?  1. As a group, discuss your understanding of globalization. (2-3 minutes) 2. Let’s watch the two videos provided to hear other views of globalization. 3. After watching these videos, as a group, discuss how globalization affects students in your classroom— now and for the future. (3-5 minutes) 4. Large group discussion. (5-7 minutes)
  6. What are the attributes of 21 st Century Learners?  1. As a group, discuss your understanding of what it means to be a 21st Century Learner. (3-5 minutes) 2. Let’s watch the videos provided to understand 21st Century learning. 3. After watching these videos, as a group, discuss the importance of 21st Century learning for students—now and for the future. (5-7 minutes) 4. Large group discussion: What does it mean to be a 21st Century Learner? Why is 21st Century learning important now and for the future? (5-7 minutes)
  7. 21st Century Learning in Our SchoolEducation Goals for21st  Century  Review the district goals for Learners in Stokes County 21st Century learning provided. Schools  Large group discussion: What do these goals mean? (5-7 minutes)  In your groups, discuss how your classroom is helping our students develop as 21st Century learners. (3-5 minutes)  Large group discussion: Each group shares 1-2 ideas. (7-10 minutes)
  8. Is competition in education healthy? 1.As a group, discuss the different ways students, teachers, and schools compete locally and globally. (3-5 minutes)2.Now, discuss the positive and negative aspects of competition for our students. (3-5 minutes)3.Large group discussion: Is competition healthy for our students? Is it a motivator for success? (7-10 minutes)
  9. How can we reform education to adapt to global trends?  1. As a group, discuss how we can reform our school to better prepare our students for global trends in postsecondary education and the workforce. (5- 7 minutes) 2. Let’s watch the videos provided to view other ideas of education reform. 3. After watching these videos, as a group, discuss methods of education reform we can put into practice now in our school. (5-7 minutes) 4. Large group discussion: How can we reform education at our school now? What are the implications of using global trends to drive reform? (5-7 minutes)
