  2. 2. Spina Bifida <ul><li>Spinabifiada is a congenital neural tube defect in which part of the meninges or spinal cord protrudes through the spinal column, often resulting in neurological impairment. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Typical Characters <ul><li>Symptoms- Bulging spinal cord, hydrocephalus, paralysis in lower back and legs, bladder and bowel malfunction, loss of sensation, mental impairment. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Possible life long effects <ul><li>paralysis in the lower back and legs, problems with bladder and bowel function, and loss of sensation. </li></ul><ul><li>Mental abilities </li></ul>
  5. 5. Getting it away <ul><li>Often, surgery is performed within twenty-four to forty-eight hours of birth to close any opening in the child’s lower back and to reconstruct the spine and other tissues in this area. </li></ul>
