### 2 2 slope of a line

1. 1.  The slope of a line is a ratio of the change in y (rise) to the change in x (run) between any two points.
2. 2.  Also called “rate of change”  Describes steepness/slant of a line. ◦ Bigger slope means steeper line!
3. 3.  Choose any two points:  Count the change in y (rise)  Count the change in x (run)  Divide and reduce.
4. 4.  Find the slope of the line.

9. 9.  Remember:  When given two points (x, y) and (x, y)  To find: ◦ Change in y: subtract y values ◦ Change in x: subtract x values (in the same order you did the y’s!!)
10. 10.  Find the slope of the line through the given points:  (-3, -1) and (3, 4)  (-1, 1) and (1, -2)
11. 11.  Find the slope of the line through the given points:  (-4, -1) and (2, 1)
12. 12.  (1, -2) and (7, -2)  (-3, -3) and (-3, -5)
13. 13.  (-1,  (4, 5) and (6, 5) 6) and (4, 2)
