Ode to my Ring

A three prong round circle of pastel colors
Shining in the light sparkling like the sun rises on the water
Creating millions of diamonds on the surface
The smooth gold slipping down my finger
Snug as cushions on a coach
From one generation to the next repeating
Fitting all of our fingers perfectly
Like a card being placed in an envelope
A bride fitting into her dress on her wedding day
Resisting temptation not to wear, but to save it
As sports fans collect baseball cards
To never be worn just kept safe
So it is not lost or stolen
But it did not become dust as bunnies under the bed
It is worn on my finger
Until I have a daughter to give it to someday
