  • Electrical Contacts – Mixed with other metals like silver, gold, andcopper to reduces sparking when in use.
  • Glass-Platinum is used in the glass industry for optical fibers and liquid crystaldisplay glass. (Common in laptops) Liquid Crystal Displays Optical Fibers
  • Laboratory Vessels-Platinum does not corrode and is not very reactivewith many chemicals, so it makes a reliable material to use in labs to transport variouschemicals. Surgical Instruments- Tools like these need to be strong, durable and sanitized often. If made with platinum, they will remain looking new and can be safely cleaned.
  • Catalyst (Several Examples) Hand Warmers- Made by using Platinum to convert methyl alcohol vapors into glowing red hot formaldehyde on contact. Catalytic Converter- Found in the exhaust systems of many vehicles. Combines unused fuel, carbon dioxide, and oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water. -Pt is used many ways similar to this process
  • In general, Platinum is used in the production of many merchandises tomake them stronger, glossier, and increase their value. It is also verycommonly used as an autocatalyst and fuel cells in vehicles. This will bea very important use of Platinum in the near future due to the increaseof pollution.
