Outline <ul><li>Editor, Students, Lecturers and learners working together. </li></ul><ul><li>- Learners sending 160 characters long smses through a gateway to an email inbox. </li></ul><ul><li>-Collated and redirected to Grocott’s Mail editor </li></ul><ul><li>The smses are three-fold, </li></ul><ul><li>-Opinion smses </li></ul><ul><li>-Mini-news story smses </li></ul><ul><li>-and Haiku poem smses </li></ul>

Preparations <ul><li>JMS Student volunteers recruited </li></ul><ul><li>Given a lesson on </li></ul><ul><li>- Citizen Journalism </li></ul><ul><li>- Smsing (i.e. sms style writing ( 2 instead of two ) </li></ul><ul><li>Grahamstown school visits </li></ul><ul><li>- Life orientation teachers briefed about the project . </li></ul>
  4. 4. Execution <ul><li>80 learners invited to a workshop over 2 weekends </li></ul><ul><li>Given basic skills in writing Mini-news stories, Opinions and Haiku poetry. </li></ul><ul><li>Supplied with airtime </li></ul><ul><li>Send one sms at the workshop and the rest as a home work </li></ul>

There was a sewage burts, the owner of the house was nt home,wen she came bck there were people 4rom the Municipality trying 2 cleane! </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers at Nombulelo high ar complainig, about corruption at school.This include learners who come 2 shool drunk. So the comunity got involved. </li></ul>

Haiku poetry smses from the learners <ul><li>Tension, so thick...u can almost cut it with a knife-then da teacher farts </li></ul><ul><li>LIFE.Life is like clock ;swings on bright golden chain;ticking very sofetly ;battery went off </li></ul><ul><li>Alwys evil,very protective,hate all guys(my mother-in-law) </li></ul><ul><li>Silky soft fabric,rip,tear and feel it, what a dirty shirt </li></ul>
