  • Located on one of the steepest vineyard sites in all of California, Hidden Ridge Vineyard stands alone.
  • Surrounded by gnarled oak and Manzanita forests on the south and western slopes of Spring Mountain in the Mayacamas mountain range, there is a vineyard so remote it can be reached only by heavy-duty four-wheel-drive vehicles, by foot, or by helicopter. This is Hidden Ridge! Developed and planted by husband and wife team Casidy Ward and Lynn Hofacket over a six year period (1995 -2001) to grow stellar mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.
  • It took an outlandish sense of adventure for Lynn Hofacket and wife and partner Casidy Ward to purchased a remote abandoned private hunting club and transform that untamed wilderness, almost single handedly, into a magnificently terraced Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard that is now Hidden Ridge. In the early 1990s Hofacket enrolled in viticulture classes and visited every mountain vineyard he could possibly gain access to in Napa and Sonoma counties, interviewing vineyard managers, engineers and viticulturists as he went. When the couple fully decided on developing a vineyard on their remote property, Hofacket knew he would clear the land and install the vineyard himself. He purchased the heavy equipment and hired a small crew of two men to help. His youth on a farm in Oklahoma taught him how to drive heavy machinery and how to keep it running. But it was the couple’s dedication, daring and drive that made their dream a reality.
  • Hidden Ridge – The Essential Facts: Handcrafted by the well recognized winemaking team of veteran Marco DiGiulio and Timothy Milos High mountain style cabernet sauvignon from extreme single vineyard estate Ideal mountain cabernet location on the “west side” of Spring Mountain Closest neighbors; Pride Mountain, Cain Vineyard and Paloma Vineyards. Rich, concentrated, small berry mountain fruit Exclusive, family-owned, ultra-premium, limited production winery
  • The Vineyard Overview: Hidden Ridge Vineyard lies in the Mayacamas Range between Napa & Sonoma Counties accessible from Spring Mountain Road in St. Helena. So remote and rugged the area was referred to on early maps as the “Impassible Mountain.” Elevations range from 900 to 1,700 feet and as steep as 55% slope Terrain offers an abundance of micro-climates with its contiguous boarders that result in a vineyard that is a winemaker’s dream 54 acres of Cabernet clones 337, 4, 7, 169 and one acre of Petit Verdot; divided into 21 blocks Uplifted & faulted over time. The vineyard has round river rocks found on the tops of ridges Vineyard soils are Sonoma volcanic shale (volcanic basalt) and sandy clay loam; this is a very well-drained vineyard Planted with inside & outside rows of 5% grade terraces that follow the natural shape of the mountain for optimum sun orientation VSP trellis system, modified to allow late afternoon shade
  • The Vineyard is Family Owned and Family Farmed. Involved in virtually every aspect of the vineyard development and maintenance, Ward and Hofacket work each harvest side by side with vineyard and cellar crews to ensure all grape growing and winemaking practices are to their standards. Because of hillside ordinances this vineyard could not be developed today. It is truly the last of its kind . Hofacket and Ward are dedicated to keeping production small and exclusively estate grown to secure for a long time to come the future of their unique and exceptional vineyard.
  • Veteran Winemaker Marco DiGiulio is well known as a mountain fruit specialist and has nothing but high praise for the exceptional Hidden Ridge vineyard. “ In 1999, I was introduced to a vineyard that quite literally shifted the paradigm for me. A vineyard so steep, so well developed, so interesting in its planning scheme and with so much vision behind it that I could not help but be blown away…It’s really that amazing.” Winemaker, Marco DiGiulio “… the challenge and the opportunity of this unique property is a winemaker's delight.” Marco DiGiulio
  • Notes on the Winemaking: Hidden Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is handcrafted by well respected, veteran Winemakers Timothy Milos and Marco DiGiulio Other Milos/DiGiulio projects include: Spence Vineyards, The Bounty Hunter Rare Wines (Justice and Waypoint) Black Coyote, Girard Winery, Lookout Ridge, and Rubissow Wines Minimalist neoclassical winemaking techniques are implemented. The wine is fermented with native yeast and sees long maceration of almost 40 days and is aged for 2 years in 80% new French Oak Hidden Ridge Cabernet is bottled unfiltered and unfined
