  11. 11. HOMEWORK/COURSE WORK <ul><li>ALL Students will always have work to do </li></ul>If they tell you have nothing to do for college in year 12 or 13 – they’re lying! Students are expected to spend at least an hour, per subject on extra work outside lessons every single day

WEAK GRADES <ul><li>If you son/daughter is on a E grade in an AS </li></ul><ul><li>subject please be aware that: </li></ul><ul><li>Progress in this subject will be closely monitored </li></ul><ul><li>If students do not improve they may be withdrawn from the A2 and asked to focus only on the AS modules </li></ul><ul><li>This will be monitored through: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Reports </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Staff feedback </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Exam results (March Module results) </li></ul></ul>
  15. 15. UMS marks <ul><li>AS ‘grades’ mean NOTHING in a subject that they are taking through to A2 </li></ul><ul><li>Scores in a subject may look something like this: </li></ul><ul><li>‘ 148 B’ </li></ul><ul><li>This may be a B at AS, but it is currently a ‘U’ at A2! </li></ul>

UMS at A2 <ul><li>At A2 students need the following UMS for grades: </li></ul><ul><li>4 Module A2 6 Module A2 </li></ul><ul><li>(out of 400) (out of 600) </li></ul><ul><li>A= 320 A= 480 </li></ul><ul><li>B= 280 B= 420 </li></ul><ul><li>C= 240 C= 360 </li></ul><ul><li>D= 200 D= 300 </li></ul><ul><li>E= 160 E= 240 </li></ul>

AS Re-sits <ul><li>Students need to focus carefully on re-sit </li></ul><ul><li>strategies. </li></ul><ul><li>Students can re-sit AS modules in Jan and June </li></ul><ul><li>Not too many re-sits – all the extra work can have a negative effect on overall grades! </li></ul><ul><li>Re-sits need to be in agreement with teachers </li></ul><ul><li>Current UMS score should indicate sensible predicted grades for UCAS </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers will decide Predicted grades </li></ul>
  18. 18. AS Re-sits <ul><li>If students wish to re-sit a module they will have to PAY upfront for it </li></ul><ul><li>Cheque/cash needs to go to Ms Heelan before the deadline set. </li></ul><ul><li>If they improve their UMS score they will get the money back! </li></ul>

  21. 21. UCAS – PERSONAL STATEMENT <ul><li>All students are following a UCAS programme in PD – it is important that they attend. </li></ul><ul><li>The personal statement is the only opportunity to personalise an application. It is very important students that take time to prepare this. </li></ul>
