      • At 1970 Software exhibition, held at the Jewish Museum in New York, visitors were invited to operate computers.
      • Goal was “to focus our sensibilities on the fastest growing area in this culture: information processing systems and their devices.”
      • Critics noted it was “a disaster,” computers didn’t work, gerbils attacked each other, caused a financial crisis for the museum and dismissal of the director (Burnam, the organizer relates certain “mysterious circumstances.”
      • Talmudic scholars and rabbis muttered darkly about inappropriateness of exhibition in this hall of Jewish Studies.
