Sultan Abdulmecid I.

When the young Sultan Abdulmecid I. decided in 1843 to let build the famous Dolmabahce Palace on the edge of the Bosporus in Istanbul, he also thought about a manufacture to produce fabrics for upholsteries and to let knot the carpets for his palace. In 1844 he decided to establish the Royal Manufacture in Hereke. Here were knotted the fine Hereke Carpets for using in the Dolmabahce Palace and after that for the exclusive use of the Ottomon Court and their guests. The best knot masters and designsers of the whole Ottoman Empire, who were invited to settle in Hereke, developed most beautiful and colourful patterns, which were unique in the world. By using silk from Bursa in warp, weft and knot and by establishing a special knot and weaving technique they were able to knot finest silken carpets, which even today are the finest silken carpets of the whole world.

We are very proud to be able to offer a very fine collection of genuine Hereke silken carpets, which were hand knotted in a manufacture directly in Hereke, what stands since four generations for the outstanding perfection, fineness and uniquness of the luxurious Hereke silken carpets.
