  2. 2. What is Podcasting? <ul><li>Podcasting is a method of distributing multi-media files, usually MP3, over the Internet. </li></ul>
  3. 3. What you need for Podcasting: <ul><li>You do not need an iPod or a handheld to participate in podcasting! </li></ul><ul><li>You only need: </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>A computer – PC or Mac </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>A microphone (can cost as little as $10 </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>A software recording/editing system </li></ul>AUDACITY - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Free and open source software for recording and editing sounds
  7. 7. <ul><li>GARAGE BAND - http:// www.apple.com/support/garageband/ </li></ul>
  8. 8. LAME - http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php High quality MP3 encoder You’ll also want to download:
  9. 9. <ul><li>A place to host your podcast: </li></ul><ul><li>As a teacher, you will probably store your podcast to your school district’s server. </li></ul><ul><li>You may also use the free hosting website, Ourmedia – www.ourmedia.org </li></ul>
  10. 10. Podcasting Step-by-Step <ul><li>Step 1 </li></ul><ul><li>Decide on the subject or the theme for the recording. </li></ul><ul><li>Step 2 </li></ul><ul><li>Prepare a script for what you would like to say. Make it short and concise. </li></ul>

Podcasting Step-by-Step <ul><li>Step 3 </li></ul><ul><li>Connect your microphone, install Audacity, then begin recording. </li></ul><ul><li>Step 4 </li></ul><ul><li>Save file by exporting as MP3. </li></ul><ul><li>(Audacity will provide link to the LAME library on its site to encode into MP3) </li></ul><ul><li>Step 5 </li></ul><ul><li>Publish </li></ul>
