  1. 1. The Olympic Games began over 2700 years ago in Olympia, in southwest Greece. The Games were part of areligious festival. The Games were held in honour of Zeus, king of the Gods.
  2. 2.  Accordingto the legend, the Ancient Olympic games were founded by Heracles (Hercules), a son of Zeus. Thefirts Olympic Games were hold in 776 B.C. The first winner was Coroebus, an naked runner, who run approximantly 192 m.  In393 B.C., the Roman emperor Theodosius I, a Christian, abolished the Games because of their pagan influences.
