United Jewish Federation of TidewaterMarch 29, 2012Dear Helen,It gives us great pleasure to inform you that the Holocaust Commission of the United JewishFederation of Tidewater has chosen you to be a recipient of the 2012 Esther Goldman Awardfor Excellence in Holocaust Education. You will receive a full scholarship, accommodations,and transportation to attend the Teacher Education Institute at the Virginia HolocaustMuseum in Richmond VA, and we will provide bus transportation for you to take yourstudents, up to a 100 maximum, to the Richmond Virginia Holocaust Museum. The details forthese awards will be part a package that you will receive by June 1, 2012.This award is given annually to recognize teachers who have incorporated the critical lessons ofthe Holocaust into their curriculum. We believe that in helping students understand theconnection between history and the moral decisions they make in their own lives, teachersimpart values of personal accountability, justice, and moral courage.We congratulate you on being selected for this award from among your colleagues whosubmitted entries. Your commitment to a more just and tolerant world affects not only yourstudents, but serves as a model of how educators can nurture values that all Americanscherish.Enclosed you will find an invitation to our local Holocaust remembrance commemoration,Yom Hashoah, on Thursday, April 19th at Congregation Beth El, 422 Shirley Avenue, in Norfolk.During the program, you will be recognized for your achievement.
