  • First, We will look at what cheating is, what cheating types are there. I divided in three period 1990 th , 2000 th , and next decade. I will call those as paper based and multiple choice, paper or computer based and multiple choice And lastly, in the future maybe, computer or internet based and Subjective type. In each period, The cheating types are hand gesture, and pencil tapping for the past, NaNowadays, ID forgery, steal SAT answer, using devices are more popular, But in the future, more advanced cheating types are expected. So, Now, I am focusing on those cheating types.

    • Cheating: “intentionally using or attempting to use unauthorized materials, information, or study aids in any academic exercise.
    • Fabrication : “intentional and unauthorized falsification or invention of any information or citation in an academic exercise.”
    • Plagiarism: “deliberate adoption or reproduction of ideas or words or statements of another person as one’s own without acknowledgement.”

  • What is Academic Dishonesty?
    • Facilitating academic dishonesty : “intentionally or knowingly helping or attempting to help another” (to cheat).
    • Misrepresentation: “Consists of providing false information to an instructor concerning an academic exercise.”
    • Failure to contribute to a collaborative project: “involves not doing one’s fair share.”
    • Sabotage: ” consists of actions that prevent others from completing their work.”

    • “ On most campuses, 70% of students admit to cheating in one form or another”
    • US News and World Reports found that 90% of students believe that cheaters are either never caught or have never been appropriately disciplined. “

    • “ Almost 44% professors said that they had not reported a student caught cheating”
    • A study conducted by Donald L. McCabe titled Faculty Responses to Academic Dishonesty: The Influence of Honor Codes found that 55% of faculty "would not be willing to devote any real effort to documenting suspected incidents of student cheating".

    • Prioritize work
      • Proper time management
    • Use proper citations
    • Be early
      • Start homework individually and identify problem areas to research on

      • When encountering trouble, do not give up easily..Try and Try again! Else take help from Instructors or TAs
    • Be proud
      • Don’t really believe other people are smarter than you
    • Be strict with free riders
    • Remember..cheating brings short term success but long term failure!
