    4. What is Prairie Travelers?
      • The organization is the cooperative effort of citizens, local trail groups and outdoor enthusiasts dedicated to expanding recreation opportunities in the state.

    8. Benefits of Rail Trails
      • Everyone wins with the preservation of transportation corridors and the development of linear trails.
      • The nation retains a vital resource;
      • the public gains a place to safely walk or bicycle ride;
      • the railroads retain the right to restore rail service in the future;
      • small towns can experience an economic revival;
      • adjacent landowners obtain access to a recreational facility and increased property values.
    9. Teach history Protect local wildlife & their habitat Preserve a vital resource Attract new businesses & residents Provide safe outlets for family recreation Increase tourism Promote healthy lifestyles & physical fitness Strengthen local economies Increase property values Rail Trails
      • By helping to preserve Kansas' heritage and recreational opportunities, you will be giving your children and grandchildren an irreplaceable gift – living history. If the linear trails project cannot be “kept on track,” so to speak, the corridors may be lost forever.
      • That is why Prairie Travelers needs your help.
    10. Get Involved!
      • Workdays: 2nd Saturday of every month
      • We meet at Gerrard's Restaurant in Goddard,
      • 8:00 am for work details,
      • 7:30 am for breakfast.
      • Meetings: 2nd Wednesday of every month
      • We meet at 7:00 pm at the Coldwell Banker building, 7309 E 21st (between Woodlawn & Rock Rd). Use east door and follow signs.
      • For more information, contact Cecile Kellenbarger at (316)744-7786 or email prairietravelers@yahoo.com
    11. Become a Member!
      • Prairie Travelers depends on the financial support and volunteer labor of its members.
      • Consider becoming a member of Prairie Travelers today!
    12. Other ways to contribute
      • Adopt a mile of the Prairie Sunset Trail! Your “adoption” will cover the development costs for that mile of trail, and your agency will be recognized with a plaque.
      • Volunteer for litter patrol. Mile-long segments of the trail will be sponsored by local groups or individuals who will maintain that segment.
      • Dedicate a bench. Honor influential people or organizations by dedicating a bench on the trail to them. The dedication will cover the cost of the bench and installation, and the dedication will appear on the bench.
    13. Sport your support
      • Buy a shirt.
      • What better way to show your support for rail-trails than to wear it?
      • Men’s and women’s shirts are available for $15 at the Bicycle Pedaler or Heartland Cycle, or through Prairie Travelers.
      • All proceeds go directly to Prairie Travelers.
      • Prairie Travelers is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law.
