  • 2. Platanus Orientalis or Oriental Planetree
  • 3. Plane tree is a very large, wide spreading, and long-lived deciduous tree.
  • 4. Plane leaves

    • Its name derived from the Greek word “platanos” or “platus”, meaning broad,
    • and referring to the leaves.
  • 6. Its flowers are reduced and borne in balls.
  • 7. Leaves and flowers

    • It is usually a large tree to 30–50 m tall,
  • 9. Plane trees are mostly found in riparian or other wetland habitats in the wild.
  • 10. Most small villages in Greece have one or more very old planes in their central square, where the village's water spring used to be
  • 11.
    • Many of them feature a large cavity which is often a playing and meeting point for children.
  • 12. In Greece there are plane trees everywhere : near rivers and lakes, in public parks or in the middle of a street!
  • 13. The tree is quite capable of survival and success in dry soils once it is established .
  • 14. This is our favorite tree!
