    • Platanos (Plane tree) in Greek Mythology “ The trees of friendship” 2008-09
      • According to Ancient Greek Mythology, Platanos (Plane) was said to be the sister of two huge giants, called Aloades and the daughter of Poseidon, god of the sea.
      • She inherited from her father the love for water, that's why Plane grows in damp places, either on the surface of the Earth or underground.
      • She inherited her great height from her beloved brothers.
      • When her brothers died, she was so afflicted,
      • that she was transformed
      • to the homonymous tree of our country,
      • Plane (platanos).
      • The plane tree is also linked to the myth of Zeus' abduction of Europe.
      • Princess Europe, the daughter of the King of Phoenicia, was playing with her friends on an Eastern Mediterranean beach, when Zeus, king and father of the Twelve Gods of Olympus, caught sight of her .
      • He fell instantly in love with her and appeared before her and her friends in the form of a bull .
      • Europe approached him and sat on his back.
      • The bull-Zeus immediately carried her off across the sea to Crete at the town of Gortys.
      • According to legend, they stayed under the plane tree, which has kept its leaves all through the winter ever since.
      • Zeus and Europe had three sons, all mythic kings of Crete: Minos, Radamanthys and Sarpedon.
      • It was once believed that the plane tree of Gortys had magical properties, and people picked its leaves to help them have sons!
